We couldn’t be more excited about what the new year has in store.
Read on for a preview of what we have planned for 2019, and keep your eyes on future newsletters for some more surprises we have coming your way!
FIRST UP: RETRO DINNER PARTY POP-UPS
There’s a lot to be excited for in 2019. Among the usual suspects- new cocktails, events next door at the Cleaners, menu shake-ups, etc.- bar manager Jeff Morgenthaler and sous-chef Arynn Curtis will be launching a series of retro-themed pop-up dinners. Ever wondered what kind of cocktails and food you would have had at a dinner party in 1962, or 1985? Well, depending on how old you are, maybe you do know, but you definitely don’t know what Jeff and Arynn would have made for you. Dressing for the occasion will be encouraged, but not required. Stay tuned for details.
NEXT ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK: BUTCHERY DEMOS
We’ve had a number of guests ask us about our house butchery program- we butcher a whole lamb from our friends at Cattail Creek farm every Thursday and half a hog from various local farmers once a month- so we’ve decided to open up a limited number of spots the third Friday of every month in 2019 for folks to come in and spend some time with our chefs, helping (or just watching!) with whole-animal breakdowns. We believe in using every part of the animal, and if you do too, this is a great chance to learn how it’s done. Space is limited- if you’d like to join us, send inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org.
SINGLE BARREL OLD-FASHIONED
Have you had our house Old Fashioned? Did you know that our bar managers hand-select the bourbon? And that Elijah Craig then sells us the entire barrel of said bourbon? And did you know that when the whiskey is all bottled, we break the barrel down and use the planks to cook steelhead trout? Well, now you do, which means you have no excuse not to come in and order an Old Fashioned followed by a steelhead trout cooked on the same wood the bourbon was aged in. Can’t do much better for a pairing!
One of our more exciting developments in 2018 was the return of our brunch service (in case you missed it, we had a relaunch party with Maseo from De La Soul!). We like to think we have something for everyone- from sweet to savory, from classics to originals. And, if your new year’s resolution includes making better use of your time, you probably don’t look forward to the inevitable line at Portland brunch places- which is why we’ve started taking a generous number of reservations. Why not make one here, right now? You’re welcome.
