We would like to wish you all a happy New Year and share some exciting news about 2017.
In January, our Chef in Residence series features four Israeli dinner events with three renowned chefs from Tel Aviv that will prepare a Moroccan-influenced feast at PLAZA DEL TORO on January 20th, offer dishes on Shalom Y’all and MEC’s dinner menus, and cook a collaborative Yemenite-influenced dinner on January 27th at PLAZA DEL TORO with John and MEC/Shalom Y’all’s Kasey Mills.
We also have a new competitive VERSUS dinner at PLAZA DEL TORO on January 28th with Sam James from Zilla Sake squaring off against Emory Brun from Backyard Social using mussels, blood orange, and quail.
February will mark the opening of Shalom Y’all in its new location on SW Alder. Shalom will take over the Pollo Bravo space there, while Josh and Sarah Scofield take full ownership of Pollo Bravo in the Pine Street Market. In Shalom’s place at the market, we are opening BYH Burgers with Toro Bravo Inc alumni Drew Sprouse, Jamal Hassan, and Kasey Mills.
In May, John is participating in Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry, where John and a ragtag posse of culinary talents on Team PDX will push their limits by completing a three-day, 300-mile ride to raise funds and awareness for No Kid Hungry.
Stay tuned for more details on BYH Burgers, the new Shalom Y’all, February Ruta del Toro and Versus dinners, and some exciting projects we have up our sleeves this spring and summer. In the meantime, we hope to see you soon while we keep our doors open to create community as we say goodbye to 2016 and embrace the year to come.
Bless Your Heart,
John & Renee Gorham
