(PORTLAND, OR; July 24, 2018)—In conjunction with the James Beard Foundation, Departure Restaurant, and The Nines Hotel (525 SW Morrison St.), Chef Gregory Gourdet presents Roots: An Evening Celebrating Portland and the James Beard Foundation. This unprecedented event offers a chance to enjoy a 12-course meal prepared by outstanding James Beard-recognized chefs from restaurants in Portland.
On Friday, October 5 at The Nines Hotel, 18 local chefs gather to raise money for James Beard Foundation Impact Programs, giving chefs tools to become champions of food policies, and the Farmers Market Fund, allowing locally underserved members of our community more access to fresh market produce. With the Farm Bill top of mind, Congressman Blumenauer kicks off the dinner with remarks on the state of food policy in America, bringing attention to what we can do to help more people get access to fair food and strengthen anti-hunger programs.
“We are extremely excited to unite chefs from our community for a dinner bringing the legacy of James Beard back to the state he is from,” says Gregory Gourdet, Director of Culinary Operations of Departure. “This dinner celebrates not only Portland’s thriving food and beverage scene and the bountiful harvest of Oregon, but also the social causes that are so near and dear to our hearts. We are honored to be raising money for programs that help empower chefs to be strong voices in their communities, providing a platform to further the work that brings essential food and resources to all.”
The entirely Oregon-focused dinner will commence with a cocktail reception with beverages and bites prepared by five local culinary stars, followed by a 12-course tasting menu crafted by 13 of Portland’s most celebrated chefs. Participating chefs include:
