Make Mother’s Day Delicious.
The mom in your life deserves something sweet this Sunday – luckily for you (and for her!) Oregon grown strawberries have arrived at Rubinette! In the last week we started getting flats of Seascape and Albion strawberries from our favorite sustainable strawberry growers: Denison Farms and Deep Roots Farm.
Whether you are making pancakes, or just dropping by with a bouquet, locally grown strawberries will make your time with mom that much sweeter.
Our favorite asparagus from Pheasant Eye farm is back! Steamed, they are the perfect, delicate accompaniment to eggs Benedict. These spears are also substantial enough to grill.
Flowers are popping up everywhere! Including on our shelves. Add some blooms to your brunch with chive blossoms, wild onions or edible flowers.
Our foragers have been bringing in big, beautiful morel mushrooms from the Oregon woods. Get inspired and try something new with this luxuriously rich mushroom.
Radishes – those peppery red roots – are having a moment. Oregon’s farmers are getting creative. We are seeing jumbo-sized crispy red radishes from Deep Roots Farm, sweet and mild french breakfast radishes from Groundworks Organic and Fox & Bear Urban Farm, pretty Pink Beauty radishes from Wobbly Cart Farm and striking long scarlet Shunkyo radishes from Our Table Cooperative. This is the perfect time to try making radish butter on a crisp baguette.
Dress it up.
Or dip your radishes in spring variation on Green Goddess dressing, using fresh green shallots, parsley and mint instead of garlic and chives. Green Goddess is also the perfect dressing for the crisp, glittering little gem lettuces that have come in from Our Table Cooperative in the last week. Or get ambitious and try Joshua McFadden’s little gems with hazelnuts and lemon cream.
