The Pacific Northwest’s meatiest cooking competition returns on October 8, 2017 at the Resort at the Mountain on the slopes of Mt. Hood, featuring rising star chefs, an artisan marketplace, and a brand new cocktail competition
PORTLAND, Ore. (September 18, 2017) – We’re less than one month away from Nicky USA’s Wild About Game, the meatiest competition in the Pacific Northwest! Tickets are still available for this sell out event, presented by Nicky USA. The 17th annual cooking competition and celebration of specialty game meats will be held at the Resort at the Mountain on the slopes of Mt. Hood on Sunday, October 8, 2017. Nicky USA and Nicky Farms proteins will be prepared by some of the region’s best chefs, who will go head to head in a cooking competition. Guests can hobnob with industry pros and foodies, sampling some of the region’s best food and drink in a relaxed, magical setting. During this meat-centric culinary event, four chefs from Portland and four chefs from Seattle will face off in a cooking competition in four different game meat-based categories. Each dish is presented to a panel of renowned culinary experts for judging, former Gourmet editor Ruth Reichl (6 time James Beard award-winning writer), Justin Chapple (James Beard Award nominee, FOOD & WINE) and Karen Brooks (James Beard Distinguished Craig Claiborne Restaurant Review Award 2017, Portland Monthly). Guests will also be able to sample each chef’s dish and vote for their favorite. Last year, Seattle’s hottest chef Edouardo Jordan (June Baby) took home the title with his Scotch Bonnet Consommé with Nicky Farms Rabbit Torchon, blistered okra, einkorn & berbere. This year’s chef matchups include some of the best culinary talents in the region.
2017 CHEF MATCHUPS:
Brand new this year is Wild About Game’s Cocktail Competition, featuring a friendly cocktail making challenge with some of the area’s best bar talent, including Brandy Feit (Headwaters), Joel Schmeck (Irving St. Kitchen), Andrew Castaneta (Renata), and Colin Carroll (Trifecta Tavern). Competitors will go head to head, utilizing spirit vendors, Beam Suntory, Bull Run Distilling, and Clear Creek Distilling. Each competitor will rotate, making and serving their cocktails at the Bull in China booth in the Artisan Marketplace from noon until 4pm. Guests are invited to sample all four and vote for their favorite cocktail, alongside a panel of judges.
Wild About Game attendees will feast at the Artisan Marketplace from the 45+ food and beverage booths, where the region’s favorite small-batch producers will sample their products, including artisan charcuterie, cheeses, chocolates, ice cream, coffee, spirits, wine, beer, along with Nicky Farms proteins and samples of specialty meat products in the Nicky USA lineup.
