DATE NIGHT DONE RIGHT!
On May 27, I celebrated my wedding anniversary with my wife, Joelle. After 22 years, two children and the inordinate pressures that befall two self-employed spouses, we still giggle like 18 year olds, prefer to take each other rather than any other to lunch or dinner, and are so obviously in love that we we are asked all the time, “How do you two do it?”
DATE NIGHT DONE RIGHT PART 1:
“Variety is the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavor.” William Cowper’s poem “The Task” (1785)
Another fancy steak dinner with some “impressive” bottle of Cabernet will underwhelm worse than the last time you attempted such a cliché “date.” Give up the control, predictability, and expectations that rob your date of fun and excitement. Rather, explore together five mysterious, dependably delicious courses. Maybe pair each to “most interesting” wines instead of “most common.” Share surprise after surprise over a couple hours instead of zero surprises over one hour. That’s a dinner date.
DATE NIGHT DONE RIGHT PART 2:
Play a Game. Play Anything. It’s Free.
“Date Night” at Uptown implies that if you enjoy our five course midweek, you are welcome to play pool on us. We also have darts, board games, card games and more. Laugh. Giggle. Be really bad at something even for 15 minutes (vulnerability is hot). Play something. A little playfulness, or competition will take a date a long way – and it doesn’t matter who wins.
