Portland’s own authentic Italian gelato maker Pinolo is celebrating European Artisanal Gelato Day this Sunday, March 24th and will be making this year’s featured flavor of the year, Tiramisu. This is a unique chance for Portlanders to take part in Europe’s only day dedicated to a foodstuff.
Pinolo’s gelato maker Sandro Paolini will be making a version using Portland’s Cafe Umbria espresso, Italy’s family-owned Agostini cocoa powder, and savoiardi (lady finger) cookies.
What: Gelato Day in Portland
Where: Pinolo Gelato, 3707 SE Division St
When: Sunday, March 24th (11am – 9pm)
What: Tiramisu gelato
Since 2013 gelaterias all over Europe – and now in Portland – celebrate European Artisanal Gelato Day by preparing a flavor of the year from the featured country, this year Italy. The countries bid through the G.A. – a committee for the protection and promotion of artisanal gelato. Last year was Black Forest, from Germany. Once a flavor is selected, gelato parlours throughout Europe feature this flavor for the day.
