Famously Open for Record Heat Waves, Paralyzing Snowstorms, Smoke, Ice and Now Solar Eclipses
Rae’s Lakeview Lounge was spotlighted by KPTV Fox 12 News during Eclipse weekend for being a locals place that would be open for all the misfits left in town. In their first television appearance, Rae’s was shown in brunch action pouring their famous $1 mimosas and trying to predict what downtown Portland was going to be doing on a Monday morning at 99.3% obscuration.

“Well of course we’re going to be open for business,” said owner/chef Todd Morey, creator of Rae’s food, drink, style and approach, “so it was nice to get a newsy nod for that. And we did get a festive, affected crowd of people out on the deck. It got dark enough for all our exterior lights to click on.”
Just a few days after the city normalized in the wake of the eclipse craze, Northwest Portland’s celebrated Vaux Swifts flew into town, first sighted yesterday morning from the deck at Rae’s. Doing their aerial show every night for the next month or more, this annual phenomenon occurs just a couple blocks from Rae’s at the Chapman School smokestack. Rae’s Lakeview Lounge will be the Swift command post of Northwest as usual, open seven days a week for Happy Hour before the dusk performance, and open for Dinnertime afterward.
