As Portland becomes known as a top fashion and food area, Rockwood is a little known incubator for these trends. Because of its rich diversity, the Rockwood neighborhood hosts a cultural assortment of food and fashion entrepreneurs. The public is invited to support and learn more about our local makers as they showcase their work at Festival of Colors, an international food and fashion event, to be held at the Sunrise Center, 18901 E Burnside from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday May 19th. Fashion designers will hold a fashion show at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Harry’s Fresh Foods and the Rockwood Community Development Corporation are both local organizations with a special interest in highlighting the opportunities for foodmakers and careers in West Gresham and sponsors of this event. “As a food producer in the area, it is an exciting opportunity for our staff to work with inspired entrepreneurs and be introduced to new local products. We hope others will join us in celebrating the talent in our community,” states Marilee Fields, Marketing Manager, Harry’s Fresh Foods. Office Depot also helped sponsor this event.
Foods from our local makers will range from Brazilian, Japanese, African, Hispanic and dessert options. Food items will be sold for $3 and under. Our fabric and fashion designers also bring an international flair. Feature designers include Jerald Doswell of Betty Jean Clothing and designer Tristan Neighbors of Dishonorism.
Anyone interested in presenting or selling personally created fashion or food products at the event can call Lynn Ketch at 503.847.9163 ext 701 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
