Flor’d By… + A Trio Of Thanksgiving Wine Packs + 15% Off West Coast Wines
This Week We Were Flor’d By…
2019 Filipa Pato ‘Nossa Calcario’ Baga
As Flor approaches its 1 year anniversary, we can’t help but get a bit nostalgic about the days before the shop’s opening. One of my fondest memories from that crazy time is a particularly impactful tasting where we tried, and were blown away by, this Nossa Calcario cuvée for the first time. I’ve been tasting next to Andy for so long that I knew the questions he was about to ask our sales rep: “How much of this do you have and how many bottles will you sell us”?
Sharing this enthusiasm from tasting appointments with all of you is something we wanted to capture as if you were there at that table with us in that moment. This is where the idea for our “Flor’d By” was born, and today we proudly offer the latest 2019 vintage of Filipa Pato’s Nossa Calcario.
Made from the indigenous Baga varietal, this wine is seductive with notes of cherry pith, raspberries, rhubarb, hibiscus, mushrooms and iron. The acidity is vibrant and sways its mineral-forward juicy/silky texture towards a slighlty smoky tannic bite. The finish is fruity, earthy and floral with great length. If you’re a fan of cru Beaujolais, you will love ‘Nossa Calcario’ which is here just in time to pair perfectly with your Thanksgiving meal.
About The Producer:
Passion for the traditional indigenous grape varietals of Bairrada led Filipa Pato to start her own project in 2001. She works a total of 12 hectares of vineyards scattered in various plots throughout the Bairrada appellation of Portugal. Utilizing biodynamic farming practices and minimal-intervention winemaking, Filipa and her husband, Belgian sommelier and restaurateur William Wouters, produce vinhos autênticos sem maquilagem – ‘Authentic Wines Without Makeup.’
‘Nossa Calcario’ is sourced from the souther extremes of the Bairrada DOC. A standard bearer for the region, this wine has a Foillard-like texture and represents tremendous value. The vast majority of the production is sold to Michelin-star addresses in London. Extremely limited.
Need some wines for your Thanksgiving feast? Don’t delay, snap up one of our curated sipper packs while they last!
This edition of our sipper is dual purpose. First as the name states, these are wines to work with the classic Thanksgiving meal, which really is a pretty easy meal to pair with – roasted poultry, stuffing, potatoes, perhaps Brussels sprouts or green beans – with all of its richer savory flavors. In Flor fashion we have selected a bunch of wines that will pair well, but also are some new discoveries to keep things interesting. Fun and interesting for those at your table that care, and, well, just darn tasty for everyone else! The second use of this packs is great drinking for all of November. Perhaps best to grab 2, so you still have wine when Turkey Day rolls around.

This 6 pack takes the sipper pack to the next level. Great wines for the Thanksgiving Day meal and great seasonal fall wines for drinking all November, but turned up to 11.
