Five new spices! + 10% off Spice of the Month + Wall Street Journal appearance

September 13, 2019

Hello There Friend,

How was your summer? Hope it was a good one! Lots of news to get to, so I’m going to jump right in…

We just launched five new spices. That’s something for a company with the word “reluctant” in its name.

Yes, we know we are a bit slow to add new stuff. We want each and every spice that we sell to be better, fresher, and more aromatic than what you commonly find.

We take our sweet time, vetting our spices with our award-winning restaurant chef customers. If they aren’t begging us for more, we keep looking. It can be frustrating and take awhile, but mediocre isn’t our middle name. Good thing, because our name is already too long.

So, it’s exciting to announce that we just launched five new, super beautiful and aromatic spices that we think you’re going to love. Star Anise, Fenugreek Seeds, Caraway Seeds, Whole Nutmeg, and Black Mustard Seeds.

We take as much time curating our spice mill collection as we do selecting our spices.

What good is having top of the line spices if you don’t have the right tools to grind, mash, and grate them to unlock those beautiful aromas? We’ve spent years curating a collection of tools that are as functional as they are good looking.

Our salt and pepper mills are built with the highest quality CrushGrind ceramic mechanisms. I’ve personally tested and use our beautiful mills and mortars in my own home. Our affordable Microplane Spice Mill is ideal for grinding hard spices like our new Star Anise, Whole Nutmeg, and Long Pepper.

But don’t just trust me, read all the raves from our customers on each product page.

This is definitely not your Papa’s Paprika.

Our ground Red Paprika is our September Spice of the Month. And it’s not what you might expect.

Our Paprika comes from the colorful state of Rajasthan in India. It’s actually ground, air-dried Kashmiri chili peppers. It’s smoky, but not smoked. Not off-the charts hot, but definitely packs some heat. It’s complex and earthy. A chef fave.

Click the link below and you’ll automatically get 10% off Red Paprika during September. Or just use the promo code SPICEASNICE10 at checkout.

Recipe of the Month:
Eggs in Bell Pepper Purgatory

Our fresh recipe series by Sarah Marshall continues in September and features our spice of the month, Red Paprika (aka Kashmiri Pepper). Sarah whipped up a delicious recipe she calls “Eggs in Bell Pepper Purgatory,” which, pardon the pun, cracked me up.

Wait, one last thing. I almost forgot to tell you that we were featured in the Wall Street Journal last month!

We were part of a story that talked about the new wave of companies importing spices fresh and direct from the sources.

Nice to get recognition for helping to bring a fresh approach to an ancient profession that all too often features purveyors selling spices that taste ancient, too.

As always, feel free to reach out with feedback, questions, or just to say hi. We love hearing from you.

Enjoy!

Scott
