Greetings! Summer is quickly approaching and we are filling up our schedule with activities and appearances in Portland and beyond. Just last week our pastry chef Geovanna Salas bid us a temporary farewell for a guest appearance at the James Beard House in New York. We were happy to hear that she wowed them with her lemon curd and sansho meringue dessert!
Next weekend you can find our sommelier Brent Braun at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen. Tickets are still available for some events so make your arrangements if you want to meet some of the nation’s best chefs and sommeliers! On Monday, June 28th Café chef Kevin Yandle will compete in the 3rd annual Sous Nami Smackdown! The contestants will create two dishes in one hour featuring secret ingredients. The dishes will then be judge by prominent figures in Portland’s food and beverage community. The event is a fun industry night and is a fundraiser for Causa Oregon. Tickets are $15, doors open at 8pm at St. Jack.
And of course, Chef Justin Woodward has some exciting dinners coming up! On June 25th he’ll be traveling to Milwaukee, WI to collaborate with Chef Justin Carlisle of Ardent. Carlisle is a James Beard nominated chef delivering a beautiful tasting menu in the same vein as Castagna. It should be a night to remember! Justin will also participate in Bon Appétit’s annual Feast Portland! The Friday Night Lights dinner he’s featured in (alongside Beast’s Naomi Pomeroy, Han Oak’s Peter Cho, and Estela’s Ignacio Mattos) is sold out, but there are other great events to check out during Feast week, plus opportunities to run elbows with other food lovers in Portland!
We’re also happy to welcome Greg Zanotti back to the fold! You may remember Greg from his prior stint as Castagna sous chef before embarking on a journey as executive chef of Muselet. After some consultation work, Greg was itching to get back kitchen. With his experience he is a valuable part of Castagna and we’re happy to have him with us again!
