BON APPÉTIT PRESENTS FEAST PORTLAND KICKS OFF THIRD ANNUAL MATCHING CHALLENGE DONATION CAMPAIGN
Feast Teams Up with Oregon Fruit Products and Two Locally-Based Charities to Fight Food Waste and End Hunger in Oregon
PORTLAND, ORE., July 13, 2018 – Bon Appétit Presents Feast Portland, returning for its seventh year, Thursday, September 13 – Sunday, September 16, is teaming up with Oregon Fruit Products to kick off its third annual Matching Challenge donation campaign to support Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon and Urban Gleaners, two locally based charity partners who are working hard to end hunger and food waste in Oregon. Starting on Friday, July 13th and continuing through Monday, July 23rd, Oregon Fruit Products and valued Feast partners have agreed to match any donation, dollar-for-dollar, up to the first $5,000, doubling the impact of each donation.
“It’s an honor to have the incredible support of Feast Portland and Oregon Fruit Products,” said Annie Kirschner, Executive Director of Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon. “The Matching Challenge funds will help us reach more kids and families across Oregon to connect them with nutritious food.”
“At Urban Gleaners we love all things related to food—we love rescuing food, we love cooking and preparing meals, and we love feeding people. Given our appreciation of all things culinary, we are truly honored to be joining Feast Portland in this occasion of taste, talent, and sharing of food,” said Tracy Oseran, Executive Director of Urban Gleaners. “The issue of hunger in Oregon is a contradictory one—we have an abundance of astoundingly wonderful food, yet nearly 20 percent of the children in our community are going to bed on empty stomachs. We are pleased to be a part of this event in order to help bring awareness to our mission of food for all.”
“I feel we are called to help others around us, and this is a small way Oregon Fruit Products can make a difference with hunger in our community. We are proud to help lead the Matching Challenge again this year and hope others will join us in making an impact on hunger in Oregon,” said Oregon Fruit Products CEO Chris Sarles.
Since 2012, Feast has raised more than $372,000 to help end hunger in Oregon and across the country, and is proud to continue supporting this important cause through its 2018 charitable partners. The funds raised from this year’s 10-day Matching Challenge will help support programs like summer meal access, including the mobile markets and summer markets the charities provide and fill with delicious food. The matching challenge is also open to the public; Feast attendees, the local community, and supporters across the nation may also help each charity partner end hunger in Oregon by donating during the matching challenge. In addition to the support from Feast partners, the festival will see the return of the third “Feast Fab Collab” series and a new t-shirt collaboration with Portland-based apparel company Bridge & Burn, with a portion of proceeds from all sales of these items benefitting both charity partners. For each exclusive Feast Fab Collab item, Feast teams up with some of the top participating artisans and chefs to create limited edition, one-of-a-kind festival-inspired items. ABOUT PARTNERS FOR A HUNGER-FREE OREGON
Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon believes that all Oregonians should have access to and be able to afford nourishing food. Hunger-Free Oregon raises awareness about hunger, connects people to nutrition programs and advocates for systemic changes to end hunger in Oregon. Feast Portland has made it possible for PHFO to connect tens of thousands of children to nutritious meals in their in communities across Oregon. When 1 in 4 kids are food insecure and hunger is at an all-time high in our state, we must work together. By addressing its root cause, poverty, and increasing access to programs like school meals and summer meals for kids, we can help end hunger in Oregon.
