Today, I am heartened to introduce you to Farmers Market Fund, Portland Farmers Market’s charitable sister organization.
Since 2012, Farmers Market Fund (FMF) has broken down the barrier of affordability for families who receive SNAP (food stamps) and shop at our markets. FMF has distributed hundreds of thousands in SNAP matching funds to help low-income families buy more fruits and vegetable.
The popular Double Up Food Bucks program provides SNAP participants a $1 to $1 match on their purchases at more than 20 farmers markets in Oregon with glowing results:
- 90% of SNAP shoppers purchased more fresh produce
- 89% felt an improvement in their overall health
I know you love our markets and our farmers – here is a new way to show it. Please donate to Farmers Market Fund, through our Give!Guide campaign. Hurry, it ends in four days!
Your tax-deductible donation of $50 will help several families bring home more fruits and vegetables while boosting our family farmers too.
Together, we can make sure farmers markets are for everyone.
Wishing you all a HAPPY and HEALTHY New Year!
Portland Farmers Market
P.S. All donors receive a slice of pie from Lauretta Jean’s AND a free loaf of bread from Dave’s Killer Bread. And those who give $50 or more will be entered to win one of 5 prizes of free Dave’s Killer Bread for a year!
