Cider Riot Now Open Late!
Happy February! By popular request we’re extending our business hours. We’ll be open every day until 11 pm except Tuesdays, when we’ll be shut (because everyone needs a day off). Opening longer hours allows us to have live music more often. The Bridgetown Morris Men will be in house every Wednesday from 9-11pm for their Pub Sing, singing classic pub songs, sea shanties, and ballads.
Speaking of music, it’s been nearly a year we since we hosted the Skimmity Hitchers for the finale of Cidercon in Portland. What a time we had, badger suit and all! Stop by our pub today and pick up a copy of the Skimmity Hitchers hit album Far Cider the World for only $10 through the month of February. This year Cidercon is in Chicago, so Philip, Garrett, Abram are off to the land of Mallort, Deep dish, and Italian Beef, and will be pouring at the Cider Summit Chicago at Navy Pier on Saturday the 11th.
Sample and Learn About Spanish Cider
February 20th, our second class in our Cider School series focuses on the sargados and sidras of the Costa Verde. Drink Free Cider and Earn Interest with Cider Riot’s Loan Program
We’ve opened up a few more spots in our loan program. Contact email@example.com for details. Individuals who make five-year $5000 loans to Cider Riot get 7.5% interest, a free pint on every visit, and bottles of every Black Bloc cider that we release. The money we raise will help to purchase more equipment to keep supplying the world with refreshing dry ciders.
5 Mile February at The Lucky Horseshoe
We’re honored to have been chosen as one of the featured producers for the Lucky Horseshoe’s Five Mile February, in which all the pubs taps are dedicated to beverages fermented within 5 miles of the pub. They’re kicking things off with a party Feb. 2 with live music from Spirit of 206. Cheers to inner Eastside Portland!
February 18th Breweries across the city throw open their doors for brewery tours and tastings. We ferment apples not wort, but that’s no reason to miss out on the fun. We’ll be pouring samples of a couple limited edition ciders, giving tours of the production facility and offering a special taplist from 11 am to 4 pm on Feb. 18th. Who knows- you might even get to sample some cider right of the Zwickel.
Notes from the Cellar
By Production Manager and Fermentation Conductor Philip Rohner
When we last left off, our daring heroes were attempting to move the home base of operations to a more secure location. Countless hours had been spent battling the forces of city permitting offices and construction contractors to make this goal a reality. Our story today takes place from that secured locale, where only the strongest have survived and thrived to fight again. Believe me we’ve barely begun to fight.
(I highly recommend drinking whilst reading)
First thing’s first, the Everyday Apple Cider project is firing on all cylinders! We worried we may die a little on the inside by sweetening anything, but we really like how Everyday came together, and (secretly) we can’t seem to stop drinking it. I know it will have the same effect on everyone else, as we originally designed it for world domination-how could we lose? After the release of the cans I predict them being used as tender in the apocalypse…
The R&D Dept. is on quite the tear, with 2 brand new 7 bbl. Batches currently in fermentation, and one new take on an old favorite, the Oregon Hop House X-17 Hop inspired Francios Xavier Matthieu, named for the Quebecois revolutionary who helped found the Republic of Oregon.
Next up is a 7.1% abv sweet and tart cherry cider aged on toasted coconut, called Fresh Cherries for Rotting Democracy. It will be semi-dry and knock the socks off the skeptics with huge aromas and intense cherry flavors. With all the political turmoil of the new administration, did anyone really think there’d be no politically inspired ciders from us? Come on, you folks know us better than that…….
The second of these new batches is a debut cider from our resident Jack of All, Salesperson and Cider Maker Angie Watkins. With skills to pay all the bills, she designed our tropical passion fruit cider, A Strong and Passionate Fruit, after herself. Tart, fruity flavors and tropical aromas accent the attitude of her Rugby inspired, head down, go-get ‘em approach to tacking all things Cider Riot!
We’re also getting very close to wrapping up process on our collaboration with EZ Orchards, made with Kevin Zielinski’s amazing apples, and fermented right here at Riot central with our own house yeast. This will be one to watch out for, folks. These French cider apples are amazing, and we’re anxious to release this beauty tout suite! Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!
