Portland, OR – May 8, 2020 – If essential travel brings you to downtown Portland during Oregon’s stay-home order, you will notice empty streets and many closed restaurants.
While restaurant after restaurant closed their doors, Southpark Seafood, an independent and locally owned restaurant on Salmon Street and SW 9th Avenue for the past 22 years, found ways to reinvent itself in the new environment.
“We wanted to ensure fresh, sustainable Seafood would remain available to our guests, even during this tough time” said Jason Gerlt, General Manager of Southpark Seafood.
“We switched from relying on in-person dining to taking online orders for takeout and delivery. Our Portland Dining Month three-course dinner was added to our to-go menu for locals to carry on the tradition. It proved to be the most popular choice through March and was added to our ongoing menu.”
In April, Southpark Seafood launched a FRESHCHEF menu featuring meals for 2-4 people to cook at home. Meal kits include favorites such as Clam Chowder, Shrimp & Grits and Dungeness Crab Lasagna.
The creativity didn’t stop there. Every Friday, Southpark Seafood opened a fresh seafood market in the restaurant offering sustainable shellfish, fish fillets and smoked seafood. With safety as the priority, all orders and payments are processed online and pick-up orders are contactless.
Sustainability extends beyond seafood into all to-go containers and chemicals used at Southpark Seafood. Certified compostable products by World Centric with a zero carbon footprint hold the to-go items guests have come to love. From cleaning solutions to soaps and sanitizers, Southpark Seafood only uses environmentally safe cleaners recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“I am a long-time fan of this restaurant which is now fighting the good fight during the difficulties of restrictions. A big T-H-A-N-K-S to the restaurant staff for doing such an excellent job under extremely trying circumstances” said @portlandrey on Tripadvisor on May 1.
Community matters at Southpark Seafood. Partnered with Frontline Foods PDX, the restaurant prepared and delivered 50 donated meals to Providence Portland Medical Center’s frontline staff. Also, 100% of gratuities, 15% of gift cards sales and 100% of Chef Chris COVID-19 stimulus check have been donated to furloughed staff.
