Welcome to the Coopers Hall Newsletter!
Our news poureth forth!
One year and 3 months in, and we are finally finding the time to share all of our good news and upcoming events. Thanks for reading!
What We’ve Been Up To: This may be your first time hearing this, but our winemaker, Phil Kramer, is a bit of a soothsayer. In the summer of 2014, just as Coopers Hall was getting off the ground, Phil was hit by a metaphorical bolt of lightning! Rosé was calling his name from the heavens. The warm and fuzzy feelings he was having led to the dedication of a small block of his Pinot Noir to the production of Rosé.
Cut to April of 2015, and as the weather began to heat up unseasonably, our Rosé of Pinot Noir rounded into form. Light pink to salmon in color, all of the skin contact happened in the presses (maybe 2-3 hours total. We opened the taps of Rosé in late April, and unveiled it to the larger public at our Rosé Release/Anniversary Party. Rick Gencarelli from Lardo and our own Roscoe Roberson made porchetta sandwiches, Frice pastry supplied the desserts, and Coopers Hall supplied the good vibes, Sangria. and of course the Rosé!
In other news, we were thrilled to take part in the Portland Craft Beer Festival during the 4th of July weekend. With weather in the high nineties, and most of the locals on brainmelt, the PCBF hosted more than 10,000 revelers over the entire weekend. And while 95% of the producers were Oregon Breweries, there was enough wisdom to include cider and wine to the festival. Sure enough, we sold all of the Sangria and Rosé!
When all was said and done, we sold 3 kegs of rosé and 4 kegs of sangria at the PCBF. That’s over 180 bottles of wine! Thanks to Rodney, Joseph, and Chris for an amazing festival!
Wine on Tap (in the Big Apple and Beyond!)
For the past year, we’ve preached the gospel of wine on tap to all who would listen. We love our hometown of Portland, OR, and how this city (and surrounding cities) have embraced wine in kegs. Our wine can be found on tap at many incredible restaurants around the northwest – PREAM, New American, Gruner, Ringside Grill, and more.
And, in super exciting news, Coopers is headed to the Big Apple! Our first account in NY is LOIS BAR NYC (in the East Village) and they are currently pouring the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and the 2014 Cascade Foothills White Wine. Wine buyer Nora O’Malley, a former manager at Alphabet City Wine Co., and Phoebe Connell, a former manager at ABC Beer Co., have impeccable taste in wine, and also have the chutzpah to focus their wine program on kegs! When we first showed them our portfolio, they were ecstatic to have more options and varieties – especially wines from the Willamette Valley – available by keg in New York City.
Partner and Brand Manager Robert Karmin will have a sales trip to NYC July 28-August 1. If you know of any businesses pouring wine on tap, shoot him an email!
