When Russ Raney retired after 24 years of making wine at Evesham Wood, he and his wife left Oregon’s rain for sunnier climes at their second home in the south of France. There in the Languedoc he is surrounded by many small, traditional wineries that he felt compelled to introduce to the Oregon market via his new importing entity, Le Garriguiste.
We are excited to announce that we will be carrying these new-to-Portland wines, which Russ is making available to only a handful of stores and restaurants locally. These well-priced and delicious wines are an exciting expression of the Languedoc-Roussillon.
Additionally exciting is that Russ will be in joining our Wine Director, Jessica Padnick, this Saturday March 28th 2-4p at Pastaworks on Hawthorne to pour a dry white and a dry rosé that are faintly scented with Mediterranean sea salt and the herbaceous note the French call garrigue, as well as three terroir-driven red wines full of rich fruit, spice, smoke, and earth. Cost of the tasting is $5.
If you can’t make it on Saturday, our City Market Wine Steward, Gabe, will be pouring
the same wines at the City Market location this Friday, March 27 from 3:30-5:30 pm, and the cost will be $5.
We are excited to see you and pour you some great wines! Our Saturday event will also feature free tastings from Alma Chocolates, Pascarosa Olive Oil, and a selection of cheeses from Pastaworks.
