PORTLAND, Ore. – November 13, 2017 – David Machado Restaurants is making some significant kitchen changes this week. Altabira City Tavern’s chef de cuisine Luis Escorcia has transitioned to Nel Centro, where he takes over for departing chef John Eisenhart. Owner David Machado will oversee the kitchen as it staffs up at Altabira City Tavern.
Escorcia honed his skills at several notable San Francisco establishments, and fell in love with Italian cuisine during his tenure at the much-loved Lucca restaurant in Sacramento, Calif. His first cooking job in Portland was at Nel Centro as sous chef and is thrilled to be back.
“Luis handles the ebbs and flows of the Convention Center and Moda Center crowds at Altabira with aplomb, so I have no doubt he will be able to glide through the busy theater dinner service and lunch rush at Nel Centro,” says Machado.
Chef Eisenhart leaves Nel Centro on a positive note. “I have decided to take some time off to visit family and friends in Northern California at this crucial time due to the wildfires,” he says. “I will remain in the culinary industry by helping friends in town with various projects. Nel Centro has been an extraordinary experience, and I will miss the people that made my tenure fun and worthwhile.”
