Chaco the resident cat at The Oasis Cabin Resort and view of the Deschutes.
It has been a long two years! I am thankful that I happened to close Smallwares a few months befor the pandemic. I know it has been a crazy struggle for so many chef friends of mine. It did give me the first opportunity in 20 years to slow down though, but in this business, I never stop the constant hustle:). Thankfully I still love cooking and entertaining!
Floral cake order for client
My partner Nathan and I have been involved in many projects over the last two years. Our latest larger one was over this past summer helping restore a 50 year old diner at The Oasis Cabin Resort in Maupin. We fell in love with the quaint cabins over the pandemic when we would fly fish out there and met the new owners and agreed to help them out. It was a lot of fun. We also have done a lot of catering for some of our old regular customers since we closed.
Although we can always do Smallwares food we also do everything else. Nathan worked in Hood River for 10 years and ran Nora’s Table and also was part owner and head baker at Pine Street Bakery, Not to mention he had a sausage company also. I joke that Nate is the more precise one with all the finesse, and I am the barbaric one with the crazy flavor palate. So together we are very multi-versed in all types cuisines and styles of food. We have done whole hog dinners, Thanksgiving-themed brunches, high-end Parisian dinners, Russian cocktail parties, so we love a good theme.
