Gathering will feature live music, complimentary yoga and free and discounted açaí bowls
Carioca Bowls, the Brazilian-inspired café which offers delicious and nutritious superfood açaí bowls, will celebrate its first anniversary with a festive block party on Saturday, June 17, 2017.
Located at 827 NE Alberta St, Carioca (Care-ee-o-ka) Bowls is Portland’s first authentic açaí (ah-sigh-ee) café. The café shares its space with Full Lotus PDX which offers classical yoga by donation and both are inside Good Life Medicine Center. Together, the east-meets-west, Indian- and Brazilian-inspired venue serves as Portland’s hub for a happy, healthy lifestyle.
“As we mark our second anniversary, we want to thank our loyal customers and invite them to celebrate with us with yoga, delicious food, musical performances and more,” said co-owner Matthew Lau.

Also at 9am Enrico will start spinning deep roots reggae and Brazilian jams and at 12 noon he will spin some Samba and customers can join our resident Samba teacher, Sheyla, to learn authentic moves. At 1pm Pedro with bring his capoeira troop over to dazzle the audience with this amazing Brazilian dance. By 2pm the music goes live with Nick Foltz and Tate Peterson doing a variety of well-known covers and then at 4:30 Mo Phillips throws back to his years prior to singing for families, cranking out jams about lying, stealing, and cheating. Other artists will join the stage throughout the day and a special guest will close down the festivities from 6-7pm.
The original, nutrient dense, delicious Carioca Bowls will be $6 all day long as well at the Full Lotus Kitchari bowls. Additionally, there will be contests throughout the day to win free acai bowls for a YEAR, a $39 Bomba bowl, Carioca Bowls swag, and giveaways from generous vendors like Smith Maker Tea, Guayaki, and Stumptown Coffee.
Cariocas are the natives to Rio de Janeiro and embody health, wellness, and vitality. The Cariocas were some of the first to embrace the açaí bowl as a staple. Carioca Bowls strives to make the best organic açaí bowls blending Sambazon Organic Açaí with other organic fruits all topped with some of the most innovative, local and organic superfoods creating nourishing bowls for the soul.
In addition to the acaí bowls, Carioca Bowls now serves beer, wine, and unique Brazilian cocktails. They also offer authentic organic kitchari options with fresh toppings like kale, cabbage, and roasted sweet potato.
Carioca Bowls invested in the restoration to the property both indoors and outdoors to create a gorgeous garden patio and intimate indoor café. Renovations continue with a new pergola just installed, new outdoor tables/chairs/umbrellas, and a 700-square-foot outdoor yoga/performance platform.
Co-owner Richard Matusow added, “This next year we’re excited to raise the bar with more over-the-top acai bowls and welcoming community events.”
