Burrata/ Oregon Wine Month – La Randonnee

May 8, 2019

Narragansett Burrata

Burrata is a style of mozzarella that is stretched in to a little sack and filled with fresh cream and curds. Our favorite domestic burrata is made by Narragansett Creamery in Rhode Island. Narragansett Creamery was founded in 2007 by Mark and Pattie Federico in Providence, Rhode Island. At Narragansett Creamery they only use locally sourced milk, vegetarian rennet, cultures and salt to make their cheeses. They keep their recipes clean and simple. The result is a beautiful cheese that can be enjoyed on its own or be added to your favorite recipe. This fluffy, milky mozzarella is the perfect accompaniment to summer strawberries, tomatoes, and peaches. You can create a delicious sweet or savory meal with this lovely cheese. If you haven’t tried it yet, come down to the shop and pick some up!

Oregon Wine Month – La Randonée

Hosted by Kevin Green
Thursday, May 9th, 2019

May is Oregon Wine Month! Throughout the state restaurants and vineyards are offering ways to taste and learn about Oregon wines. You can find events that are taking place throughout the state on oregonwine.org. At Cheese Bar, we are celebrating Oregon Wine by featuring a different local winemaker at our Thursday tastings throughout the month of May.
This week, we will have Kevin Green of La Randonnée pouring three of his wines for us.
Here’s a little bit about La Randonnée:
After working in the Oregon wine industry for 10 years and honing his craft in Burgundy and New Zealand, Kevin and his wife Clodagh began their own wine label, La Randonnée, with the 2014 vintage. Kevin’s interest in wine making evolved from a love of the land inherited from both of his parents, who came from farming families in Iowa. Striving for the perfect blend between earth, art and science, Kevin is focused on balancing his technical skills with his artistic, creative side. As an outspoken proponent of environmental preservation and recycling,
La Randonnée will produce wines exclusively from 3rd -party certified sustainable vineyards. At this time, La Randonnée wines are both LIVE certified and produced from Food Alliance Certified grapes. Kevin continues to experiment with natural wine making techniques.
La Randonnée is French for a walk or a trek, but genuinely comes from Kevin’s life path. An independent series of decisions throughout his life have led to an adventurous journey full of creative opportunities. Kevin also met his wife Clodagh in a “Hill Walking” club in Ireland, and
as a couple they have set their sights on roads less travelled, leading the creation of La Randonnée wines. Kevin & Clodagh invite you to “join them on their Randonnée” and hope that you enjoy their wines!
As usual, the tasting is complimentary. We hope you can join us in celebrating Oregon Wine Month!
