Budget Wine Tasting/La Cabezuela/Raclette Night/Oregon Cheese Fest/Book Release

February 21, 2019

Budget Wine Tasting

Thursday, February 21st from 5:30 to 7:30

This week’s wine tasting will be featuring a selection of delicious yet affordable wines. The tasting will include a lovely Austrian wine made from Gruner Veltliner, an Italian rose made from 100% Nebbiolo, and 2015 Provencal red blend made primarily with Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan. We hope you can come down to the shop and join us!

La Cabezuela

This goat’s milk cheese is  made by Royuela Cheese Company in Madrid, Spain. It is made uniquely from the milk of the endangered Guadarrama breed. Guadarrama goats get their name from the region where they originate, also known as the Community of Madrid. These goats have lived in the mountainous region outside of Madrid since the 17th century. The Royuela-Campo family who were interested in protecting the Guadarrama goats as well as the local cheese making tradition developed this cheese. The goats graze on local pastures of grass, heather, acorn, and thyme. La Cabezuela is semi-firm, with a fluffy white rind. Notes of lemon, mushrooms, and fresh herbs are present in the dense, crumbly paste.

Raclette Night!

Wednesday Evenings 6pm to 8pm
Brrr! It’s cold out there! What better way to warm up than with a plate of hot melty cheese. Raclette Night is Wednesday evenings from 6-8 (or until the cheese runs out) through the spring. It is $7 for a small plate of potatoes, ham, cornichons, mustard, with broiled Raclette cheese. See you there!

Oregon Cheese Festival

The Oregon Cheese Festival takes place every March at Rogue Creamery in Central Point. This year the festival will be taking place March 16th and 17th. The festival is a farmer’s market style event celebrating cheese and all the wonderful things that go with it. This year Steve Jones will be teaching a cheese pairing class that features his new book, Cheese Beer Wine Cider. Get your tickets now!

CHEESE BEER WINE CIDER:

A Field Guide to 75 Perfect Pairings
By Steve Jones & Adam Lindsley

We are extremely proud and excited to announce the upcoming release of Steve Jones & Adam Lindsley’s new book, CHEESE BEER WINE CIDER: A Field Guide to 75 Perfect Pairings. As the title suggests, it’s all about taking a great cheese and finding the very best beer, cider, or wine to drink with it. You may be surprised by the results! Along the way, you’ll learn about goats, cheese crystals, cider apples, and a smattering of other fun topics related to the stuff you’ll be eating. Steve and Adam spent the last three years eating gobs of cheese and drinking gallons of alcohol (“research,” you see) to ensure only the very best pairings make it to your cheese plates.

Their new book will be released March 19, 2019! It is available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Just follow this LINK to order a copy of your book now!
