Just two hours after I sent out my last email with the gorgeous pictures of Chef Scott’s new Stonefruit tasting menu, I received a call telling me that Scott was at OHSU’s hospital going through emergency surgery.
He had been riding his bike that morning, swerved to miss a car that blew through a stop sign, got his tires stuck in a Max track, and tumbled. The doctors determined that the only thing broken was his leg, but it was broken badly with a severe tibial plateau fracture. He went through several surgeries, the final surgery was yesterday, almost two weeks later. He was pretty out of it yesterday, but sent me a text at 4:43 this morning saying, “Out of surgery on the way to recovery.”
I have no choice but to shut down our re-blossoming tasting menu program until Scott is up and around again. After installing all-new kitchen equipment, refrigeration and lots of other expensive improvements (not the least of which was hiring and training several new friendly faces), having our dining room shut down really hurts. Summer isn’t a great time for pool rooms in Portland. Charlie, Scott’s long-time Sous Chef, is fully capable of running our “Bar and Happy Hour Menu.” If the mood strikes you, come down and give Scott’s bar menu a try. You will appreciate it. My crew will, too.
Thanks for understanding.
