Blue Star is coming to a grocery store near you!

April 8, 2020

Blue Star to launch packaged mini donuts and their first-ever donut holes in grocery stores around the Portland Metro Area

Portland, Ore. (April 8, 2020) – Portland’s beloved gourmet donut shop is set to launch a line of limited-edition delicacies in grocery stores around the Portland Metro area. The debut will include new, never-seen-before artisan donut holes as well mini versions of their signature vegan cake donuts. Nine different flavor options are now available in select grocery stores around Portland. The bite-sized treats are currently available at all four Green Zebra Grocery stores, as well as the New Seasons Slabtown, Concordia, and Cedar Hills locations. Additional stores and flavors will be available soon and will be frequently updated through Blue Star’s social media channels.

“Alongside all of our friends in the restaurant industry, we’ve been in survival mode for the last few weeks,” said Katie Poppe, CEO and Blue Star co-founder and owner. “It’s such a challenging time, yet through it all, our fans have been there cheering us on, asking where they can get their donuts. We wanted to come at this taking the utmost precautions for our customers and remaining staff members. It took us a little bit to figure that out, and we’re trying to meet our customers where they are. We’re so incredibly excited about sharing these new products with Portland, and just really grateful for the support from our community and especially our local grocers.”

Blue Star plans to expand its offerings while enforcing strict operational guidelines to prioritize customer and staff safety. “We’re lucky to have enough space to maintain more than a 6-foot distance between employees at all times.” adds Poppe “All staff are wearing and changing gloves and masks, as well as enacting hourly timed sanitation of all work areas and touchpoints. We’re excited to see where this new line of products takes us.”

ABOUT BLUE STAR DONUTS

Blue Star Donuts is a gourmet donut shop born in Portland, Oregon. After a much-anticipated opening in 2012, the Portland-grown bakers have since expanded to eight locations in the Portland area, plus three locations in Los Angeles, California. The unique brioche-based donuts and signature cake donut recipes quickly became a foodie favorite, recognized as the best in Portland and the United States by Conde Nast, The Washington Post, and USA Today. Their gourmet gems have gained international attention on the Food Network, and were also featured on the cover of Bon Appetit Magazine. Head Pastry Chef Stephanie Thornton was recently featured as a contestant on Chopped, and Co-Founder and CEO Katie Poppe is a recipient of the Portland Business Journal’s “40 under 40” award and “Oregon’s Most Admired Companies”, and is also a PCNW regional finalist for Ernst & Young’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” award.
