“Donuts for Doernbecher” charitable event and limited-edition donut release on National Donut Day
Portland, Ore. – Portland’s favorite artisan donut shop will be celebrating National Donut Day with a surprise new donut release at all six Portland-area locations. In addition to the special new release, Blue Star will donate 10% of proceeds from the delectable donut day to the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. This year National Donut Day is Friday June 2nd, 2017.
“National Donut Day is such a fun ‘holiday’ in the donut world, and with all the extra love we get from our community it’s a great opportunity for us to be able to pay it forward – after all, kids are some of our biggest fans!”, says Katie Poppe, Co-Owner and CEO of Blue Star. Poppe also volunteers with the OHSU Marquam Hill Steering Committee.
OHSU Doernbecher ranks among the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals , and offers a full range of pediatric care to tens of thousands of children annually. As a part of Oregon’s only academic health center, OHSU Doernbecher educates and trains the next generation of pediatric physicians, conducts valuable scientific research, and provides specialty care at more than 200 outreach clinics throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. All proceeds raised by “Donuts for Doernbecher” will help to expand pioneering research, state-of-the-art equipment, and help cover the cost of care for families most in need.
The new limited-edition donut will be available at all Portland locations at the start of regular business hours on Friday June 2nd, and run until the following Friday, while supplies last.
ABOUT BLUE STAR DONUTS
Blue Star Donuts, founded and owned by Katie Poppe and Micah Camden, is an artisan donut shop with six locations in Portland, Oregon. After a much-anticipated opening in December 2012, Poppe and Camden expanded to a second location in Southeast Portland in May 2014, and quickly opened four more satellite locations in North, Northwest, Southwest, and the Portland International Airport in the span of two years. The Portland-grown shop has since expanded to numerous pop-ups in Japan and two locations in Los Angeles, California.
The brioche-based donuts have quickly become a Portland favorite, recognized as the best in Portland and the United States by Conde Nast, The Washington Post, and USA Today. Their gourmet gems have gained international attention on the Food Network and Forbes, and were recently featured on the cover of Bon Appetit Magazine.
