BLUE STAR BRIGHTENS UP NATIONAL DONUT DAY WITH LIVE ART EVENT PLUS LIMITED-EDITION DONUT
“Donut Art” created live in-store to be auctioned for charity, in addition to special new donut debut
[DATE] Portland, Ore. – Portland’s home-grown artisan donut shop will be paying tribute to the local artist community by celebrating National Donut Day with a “live art” exhibit, featuring emerging local artists from around the Portland area. In addition to staging the charitable art event, Blue Star will release a surprise limited-edition donut at all eight Portland-area locations, available throughout the weekend only. This year National Donut Day is Friday, June 7th, 2019.
The artists range from specializing in pencil drawing, to still life painting, to embroidery. One thing that will tie them all together this coming Friday is – donuts, of course! Each delectable donut location will host an artist that will create a unique art piece with a variation on the donut theme, and all pieces will be produced live, in-store during National Donut Day. The finished creations will be auctioned off on Blue Star’s instagram social media account (@BlueStarDonuts), with all proceeds going to local charity Children’s Healing Art Project (CHAP).
“This will be our sixth year participating in National Donut Day, and we’re thrilled to be able to showcase some of our local artistic talent,” said Katie Poppe, co-founder and CEO. “This is by far the biggest day of the year for us – literally all hands are on deck – and it’s really cool to be able to include the community in way we’ve never done before! And the secret donut release is just going to bring it all home.” After being surprised by the fandom of the celebratory day their first year, Blue Star has since made a point to partner with a local charity every year since.
Children’s Healing Art Project (CHAP) brings the healing power of art to children in crisis through a mobile team of teaching artists working in partnership with hospitals, community organizations, and schools. At CHAP, children are always known for their creativity and ingenuity—never by their disease, diagnosis, or disability. CHAP’s teaching artists lead nearly fifty hours of in-hospital art adventures per week, introducing a vast array of art supplies and projects designed to spark each child’s imagination. Their goal is to transform any hospital or medical experience into a time of imagination and joy, if only for a few minutes a week.
