Berlu: Home for the Holidays

November 30, 2021

It’s 6am and I’m awakened to the chirp of a black-capped chickadee. Maybe, for a second, I question if I’m tucked away in the woods, possibly at my favorite cabin at Suttle Lodge. That doubt is quickly dismissed when the tune of “Joy to the World” follows and I come to the realization that I am at my Pop’s house and that the living room and kitchen clocks, a mere 5 feet apart, are offering their hourly chimes.

My cousins and fiancé’s parents will be joining us for dinner tonight, so we’ll break out the “fine china”….the same flower printed set my Pop has had for 25 years. As is the use of these plates, it’s become a holiday tradition for me to change into my 92-year-old Grandmother’s blue sweat suit at some point during dinner, respectfully poking fun at the Matriarch of my family. The evening will likely end singing karaoke. My Pop usually sings a few Beatles and BeeGees songs, with Mallory adding some Ella Fitzgerald and Christmas classics. This year, I’ll try my luck with Savage Garden’s “I Want You,” along with a few random Akon/Kevin Lyttle songs.

We’ve returned to offering our tasting menus for over a month now and have been excited to see how this new Vietnamese direction has taken us. There have been a few tweaks to the menu, with a larger shift coming over the next two weeks as we enter the colder months of winter.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received over the past month and look forward to welcoming you and your loved ones this holiday season.

Bookings for December and January are available through Tock.

As a reminder, all guests joining us for dinner are required to show proof of full vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours of dining. All of our staff is vaccinated and, along with our extensive cleaning practices throughout the night, there are multiple air purifiers present in the dining room and our HVAC system has been outfitted with MERV-13 filters.

Along with our tasting menus, we feel blessed to continue offering our traditional and unique Vietnamese pastries/noodle soups, Sunday mornings from 10am-1pm. Goodies are available at our walk-up window or can be enjoyed in our dining room. (proof of vaccination required)
