Born in Palermo, Sicily’s capital city, Inguaggiato opened Bellino on April 14th, bringing authentic Sicilian cuisine to Portland. In his drive to deliver classic Sicilian dishes and wine to Portland, Inguaggiato will host the Brand Ambassador, Export Director, and Sommelier, Penny Murray, from Planeta Winery to showcase four distinct wine regions in Sicily for the dinner. A 20-year-old, family-owned winery based in Palermo, Planeta Winery is a collection of six boutique wineries. Traveling directly from Palermo for the dinner, Murray will showcase the varied wine production and terroir from four different regions of Sicily.
The dinner will include a five-course meal including Antipasti, Primo, Secondo, Contorni and Dolce, paired with four distinct Sicilian wines for $65 per person, with gratuity not included.
“It’s a privilege to host Penny who is coming directly from Palermo for this event. Serving Planeta’s wine here at Bellino is a great opportunity for me to bring the classic wine of my country to our wonderful customers. And, having such a premier wine expert join us to present and illustrate the history and production of Sicilian wine is a true honor,” said Inguaggiato.
The Planeta Wine Dinner will feature Inguaggiato’s signature traditional dishes that are true to his Sicilian roots and they will be carefully and artfully paired with four select wines from Planeta Winery. The menu includes the following:
- Antipasti: Involtini di Melanzana and Insalata di Polpo;
- Primo: Pasta alla Norma
- Secondo: Spiedini di Pesce Spada;
- Contorni: Patate Arrosto e Cavolo Nero (Roasted Potatoes and Kale); and

Murray will be on-site, personally pouring the following unique and specially-curated wines for the dinner, and she will be actively engaged with guests, describing the country’s different wine regions, the varying geography and viticultural landscape of Sicily, the distinct soil types, and the history of the winery. She will explain and educate guests on the aromas and flavors of the following wines:

With Bellino, which is his mother’s maiden name, Inguaggiato’s goal is to bring traditional, Sicilian culinary culture to Portland. Inguaggiato grew up working with his mother in his grandfather’s trattoria in Palermo, learning the ingredients and traditional preparation of Sicilian food. In addition to authentic Italian cuisine, Inguaggiato’s other passion was basketball and he played professional basketball for the Italian League in Italy for 18 years and coached professionally for three years. He married an American woman and the two moved to Texas where his wife’s parents live and Inguaggiato opened two successful Sicilian restaurants in 2004.
