Award Winning Cheese
Every July, cheese professionals from across the US gather for the American Cheese Society Conference and Competition. This year the conference took place in Denver, Colorado, where 2,024 cheeses from almost 300 creameries were entered and judged by experienced cheesemakers and mongers, including our own Steve Jones. This year’s Best of Show winners were, Tarentaise Reserve from Springbrook Farm/Farm for City Kids, winning First Place, St. Malachi from The Farm at Doe Run in Second Place, and Harbison from the Cellars at Jasper Hills in Third Place.
Here are some of the award winners we currently have available: Lorelei from Briar Rose Creamery, Up in Smoke from River’s Edge Chevre, Bay Blue from Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese, Trivium from Creamery 333, Roth Kase Private Reserve, Von Trapp Farmstead’s Mt. Alice, and Jasper Hills Farm Harbison and Moses Sleeper.
We would also like to congratulate a number of our local Oregon Creameries for winning awards this year! Oregon winners include: Briar Rose Creamery, Face Rock Creamery, Ochoa’s Queseria, River’s Edge Chevre, Rogue Creamery, and Tillamook County Creamery Association.
Italian Wine Tasting, Thursday, August 3rd, 5:30-7:30 pm
We hope you can make it to this weeks wine tasting featuring four delicious Italian wines from Casa Bruno Imports. Rebecca Pagel has thoughtfully selected a variety of unique, food friendly wines that are also a great value!
The tasting will include the following wines:
2015 Zuani Vigne Collio Bianco, Fruili
A white wine obtained from a blend of native Friulano grapes and international varieties that thrive in Friuli, especially in Collio, with its outstandingly favorable geology, soil types and site climates. The bright yellow hue introduces a soft, complex, fruit-rich nose enhanced by lingering mineral notes. The warm, broad palate echoes the nose, revealing balanced acidity and impressively rich fruit on the long finish.
NV Puianello Lambrusco Dry Grasparossa
100% Grasparossa Lambrusco from Emilia-Romagna. This is a dry style of Lambrusco from the hilly region of Reggio Emilia. Raspberry on the nose and slight tannin on the palate for this frizzante wine!
2016 Casa Emma Sangiovese Rosato
100% Sangiovese grown on the clay, rocky, limestone hills of Tuscany. Flecks of orange color the wine with a complex nose of citrus peel, stone fruit and spice. The wine is made in all stainless steel and has fresh acidity and balance.
2016 Ferraris Agricola Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato “Bric d’Bianc“
100% Ruche from the Bric d’Bianc mountainside in Castignole Monferratto (Piedmont). This deep red wine is produced in all stainless steel and smells of roses and cherries on the nose followed by fine tannin on the palate. A very unique wine to pair with cheese and charcuterie!
As usual, the tasting is complimentary and the wines are discounted tomorrow night only. See you there!
