Bergerac Bistro, a French restaurant and caterer in Woodstock, SE Portland is celebrating its first year anniversary this October. Originally a Lebanese restaurant, the new European owners, Gisella from England and Joris from France, have transformed the menu and interiors into a local neighborhood bistro with a French touch.
On the menu is a nod to the classic French cooking that Head Chef Joris grew up with in the South West of France alongside dishes inspired by travels throughout Southern Europe and North Africa. House made duck confit, escargots and creme brûlée are just some of the items that customers are raving about alongside the weekly specials. Bergerac prides itself on offering medium price point, curated wine list, French inspired cocktails & very friendly servers.
Events this year included Valentines Day & Bastille Day with live music by local musicians and four course Prix Fixe dinner with optional wine pairings. More events are planned for the fall and winter.
Joris has spent the last 15 years working in restaurants in France, Spain, London and Portland honing his recipes and expanding upon his skills. He moved to Portland three years ago after selling his cafe and caterer “L’Artisan” which gained a popular following in Greenwich, London. Both Joris and Gisella were brought up in food centric families with fathers that worked in the restaurant and food industries. Learning to both cook and enjoy food are a fundamental part of their own experience and now one they are passing on to their 2 children.
