August Newsletter 2019

August 2, 2019

From a new kombucha flavor to grocery store recommendations, we are filling the summer with seasonal flavors. This time of year, it’s easy to indulge while eating delicious, local food. Is it possible to eat too many tomatoes or watermelons? Nevermind. We don’t want to know.

DOCTOR’S ORDERS

We’re big fans of Brew Dr. Kombucha. So when they asked Joshua McFadden to collaborate on a seasonal flavor, it was a pretty easy decision. The resulting flavor, Dark Cherry Vanilla, is our new favorite. We’re not impartial. But, seriously, it’s really good. You can get it at Tusk and Ava Gene’s … and wherever the best kombucha is sold.

LITTLE SESAME

Our friends from Little Sesame in Washington D.C. are taking a summer road trip, and we’re excited that they’ll be stopping at Tusk on Wednesday, August 7th. The event will feature a collaborative menu alongside some Tusk favorites. It’s going to be a fun night, so reserve your table here.
EAT LIKE A CHEF
Have you ever wished Joshua McFadden was roaming the aisles of your favorite grocery store, pointing out some of his favorite seasonal produce and helping you stock your pantry? Well, New Seasons is doing the next best thing. Be on the lookout for the “Eat Like a Chef” signs peppered throughout their stores to find some of Joshua’s favorite selections … like the ingredients for the tomato and sheep cheese pane pictured above (recipe here).
TUNE IN, DRINK UP
We’re excited to announce that this month’s Generous Pour cocktail will support The Numberz, an independent radio station playing “Black music by Black people from Black Portland.” If you cannot stop by Ava Gene’s or Tusk, you can still donate to their upcoming Kickstarter campaign later this month. You can also listen at 96.7 fm or right here.
EASY, CORNY, CHEESY
Summer is the easiest time to keep things both easy and delicious. There is no better example than this Grilled Corn with Alla Diavola Butter and Pecorino. It’s a simple way to take corn to another level without disrupting your plans for a sunny day. Get the recipe from Joshua’s McFadden’s Six Seasons here.
