August News from Viola Wine Cellars

July 31, 2019

AUGUST NEWS

The table is set as we prepare for another Guest Chef dinner this month out on the patio here in Mosier on Saturday August 10th. If you’d like to join us for the last dinner of the Summer with Jason French from Ned Ludd doing the cooking and Viola wines flowing freely in your glass, here’s your chance to sign up. Reservations will close next Tuesday and we have just 14 seats left. Details below.

Mosier is humming this time of year with bike traffic, hikers and kite boarders coming and going and everyone seems to be having a great time. Remember that our tasting room has air conditioning so if (if?) the Summer heat descends this August, stop in for a cold drink and to cool off and hang out with us.

Tasting room hours remain the same through August but we do have 1 exception this month. Due to an offsite event, the tasting room will be closed on Saturday August 17th. Otherwise, it will be business as usual open every Saturday and Sunday from 12-6pm through Labor Day.

Updates next month on the plan for hours when harvest commences.

Happy Summer to all,

Darryl & Sarah

Ned Ludd Wine Dinner in Mosier – Saturday August 10th

Our second Guest Chef dinner this Summer features the talented Jason French, who focuses on contemporary American cookery in the kitchen at his NE Portland eatery Ned Ludd.

Jason has come up with a menu to go with our wine pairings that we hope will inspire your culinary cravings beyond the experience of dining with us outdoors under the glorious skies of Mosier. Dinner will consist of 4 courses paired with wines. The cost is $100/person, including food, wine and gratuity – and trust us, based on the last dinner, this is one of the best deals of the Summer for the quality and quantity of flavors you will get to experience, not to mention the company you’ll get to interact with at the large communal tables on our outdoor patio.

The menu on August 10th is as follows:

Soup
Cucumber Buttermilk Soup, Peach and Bay Shrimp Salsa
served with Viola Sauvignon in Acacia 2017 and 2015 from our library

Salad
Smoked Trout Salad, Shaved Summer Vegetables, Fresh Herb Vinaigrette
served with Viola Ramato ‘Kiss’ 2018

Main
Galantine of Chicken, Panzanella of Cherry Tomatoes, Fermented Summer Squash, Adventure Bread and Black Olives
served with Viola Ramato ‘Fig’ 2017 and Dolcetto Carbonico 2018

Dessert
Sweet Corn Pudding, Pine Nut Brittle, Cocoa Nibs, Saba

We politely decline menu substitutions as we have limited kitchen space and equipment to work with for these intimate gatherings. Please do alert us to food allergies, however, so we can be conscientious in serving you.

To attend this dinner, you need to purchase a ticket for each seat you want to occupy. These tickets are nonrefundable but may be transferred to friends or family members if something changes and you can’t attend yourself. Tickets are $100/person inclusive of food, wine and gratuity. If you’d like to join us, pleaseemail me directly and I will send you an invoice to confirm your place at the table.

Last Call on Ramato Kiss

If you have been loving our 2018 Ramato ‘Kiss’ as much as we have, well you better come on down to the tasting room (or text us for a Portland pickup) because we are down to the last month’s supply. We should make it to Labor Day, maybe, but I know many of you enjoy sipping this around Thanksgiving so we are letting you know now to stock the fridge and the cellar if you want to keep some around into the Fall. Also low is the limited Dolcetto Carbonico (for club members) and Barbera d’Alder. You’ve been warned!
Find our new tasting room @ 1104 1st Avenue in Mosier, OR 97040.

OPEN EVERY SATURDAY & SUNDAY from 12pm – 6pm

Take I-84 to Exit 69, drive 2 minutes into town and you’ve arrived. That means we’re just 69 miles from the Moda Center, which should take you about an hour if you’re driving the speed limit!

Easy to reach, amidst the beauty of the Gorge’s transition from greenery to high desert. We can’t wait to see you there!
