If your New Year’s resolution involves more evenings out, eating tacos, drinking natural wine from around the globe, or learning about the differences between tequila and mezcal, then this newsletter is for you. If you committed to running every morning and you’ve already failed, then this newsletter is for you too. If you’ve managed to follow through on all your serious resolutions, then we kinda hate you. But you certainly deserve a reward … perhaps a night out involving tacos, natural wine, or tequila?
SUERTE IN PORTLAND
It’s the time of year when Portlanders turn to fantasies of being somewhere warmer and drier, sipping a tequila cocktail, eating tacos, sopes, and tamales. The Tope Chef Series is bringing fantasies to life. Okay, we can’t change the weather, but chef Fermín Núñez of Suerte will be here providing one night for all of us to pretend we’re in Austin, TX. Learn more HERE and book HERE.
SOMEDAY IS NOW

Jessica Baesler and Graham Files are the best people. And they just opened a new bar, Someday, down the street from Ava Gene’s. Imagine if some of your best friends moved into your neighborhood and offered to serve you cocktails and food whenever you came over to their beautiful home. It’s like that. You should go.
VALENTINE’S FOR ALL
We have prix fixe menus at both Ava Gene’s and Tusk on Valentine’s Day, but it’s filling up quickly. We’ll make it special for you and your someone special … or just you … or your friends. Just bring whoever you want, we’ll make it special if you book HERE or HERE. Lovely Rita also has some amazing dishes on the menu for the night and you can book HERE.
THE WILD BUNCH
A decade from now you are going to be at the tenth annual Wild Bunch, Portland’s natural wine fair and European Market put on by Bar Norman and House of Commons. Someone younger and cooler than you is going to talk about how they’ve been coming for a few years. What you do next will determine if you can simply reply, “I’ve been coming here since it started in 2020.” There are less vain and more delicious reasons to get your tickets now—so much wine, food, and music!—but you’ll never get another chance to go to the first one … so check it out HERE!
DRINK BETTER WITH BRETT
If you’re looking to improve your spirits knowledge (and, yes, that requires tasting), then check out The Hoxton’s new series, “Drink Better with Brett Adams“. Bar Manager Brett Adams is leading a monthly class at their basement bar, 2NW5, where he explains the ins–and–outs of a featured spirit … plus there’ll be tasting, snacks, and a chance for you to make your own cocktail at the end. The series begins with a “Tequila vs. Mezcal” night on Tuesday, February 4th from 7:30pm to 9pm—so grab a seat to learn their differences, how they’re made, and how to choose a better bottle next time you’re in the liquor store. Tickets are $45/person and you can purchase HERE (limited spots available).
