Pigeon & Friends April News

Curated 6 Packs for Your at Home Wine Drinking Pleasure

Many of us are filling our recycling bins at home with bottles at a quicker clip than in the past….and that is okay. We are all in this together, and when you’re drinking the good stuff, well hey, you’re keeping it classy.

Each week or two we’ll curate a few new wine 6 packs with different themes and at different price points. Here are the first three.

Once you order they will be available for pickup on Friday and Saturday, April 10th and 11th, from 12-5pm (if you require alternate arrangements, please inquire).  All the bottles were packed by one person on Monday the 6th, so the bottles were handled minimally and not for a few days at the time you receive them. Your order can be picked up at our front door, or we can bring it out and place it in your car. Payments will be processed ahead of time through our website.

Bundle #1

Sipping at Canard (10 packs for sale) $100. We hope you miss sipping wine at Canard as much as we miss pouring it for you. You’ll get to again, we promise. Till then this is a 6 pack of some of our team’s fave everyday sippers for Spring.

Chinon (Chenin Blanc), Jean-Maurice Raffault, 2018, Loire (FR)

Drink this one on a sunny day. Or when it rains, cause it will bring the sun with it.

Pecorino di Offida, La Valle del Sole, 2017, Marche (IT)

A white, not a cheese. Great texture and a little salinity along with the fruit.

Melon de Bourgogne, Johan Vineyard, Bow & Arrow Wines, 2018, Willamette (US)

A grape from Burgundy, made famous in the western Loire for Muscadet, grown in the Willamette, and crafted by our friends at Bow & Arrow. A waltz of fruit and minerality.

Rosé (Grenache & Zin), Smockshop Band (By Hiyu), 2017, Columbia Gorge (US)

This is serious rosé. A second release from the winery of this wine after spending 2 years in neutral barrels.

Barbera del Monferrato, Rosso Pietro, Cantine Valpane, 2017, Piedmont (IT)

Barbera does not play 2nd fiddle to Nebbiolo for Valpane. It is the core of what they do. You’ll be surprised by the balance of earth, fruit, and savor.

Rioja (Tempranillo/Graciano/Garnacha), Rayos Uva, Olivier Rivière,  2018 (ES)

Yes, Rioja made by a Frenchman. He came to Spain to help with vineyard conversions to Biodynamic farming, and never left. Think Rioja meets Burgundy.

Bundle #2

Spain is Where it’s At (6 packs for sale) $190. We may go deeper and nerdier into regions of Spain as the next few weeks progress, but this is a bundle of some very groovy wines from Spain that will serve as a primer for what is to come. Each one of these will make you rethink what you may have thought about wines from Spain, and will… blow your mind. No, I’m not overselling it, I’m serious.

Cava Brut Nature, Gran Reserva, La Ticota, Avinyó, 2012, Penedes

From 80-year-old vines, and aged for 5 years before disgorgement. Serious stuff!

“Dido Blanco” (Macabeu/Garnacha Blanca/Cartoixà), Venus ls Universal, 2018, Montsant

A husband and wife team, the offspring of 90’s Priorat power players, texture and bright, with just a trace of skin contact

Ribeiro (Trixadura, Loureira/Albariño), Eiras Altas, Viña Mein, 2016, Galicia

The wines of Viña Mein have been stalwarts on the list at Le Pigeon and Canard the last few years. This white, with its subtle complexity that evolves on the palate as you drink it, illustrates why.

Listan Prieto (aka Mission), Benje, Envínate, 2017, Tenerife, Canary Islands

There is a lot of buzz about Envínate, and for good reasons. This wine is sourced from a few old vineyards on the island. All volcanic soils. Great Spring wine!

Ribeira Sacra (Mencia), Carravel, Algueira, 2016, Galicia

Power without weight is an apt descriptor of Great Mencias, like this one, from the steep slate slopes above the river Sil. You’re welcome.

Méntrida (Garnacha), Uvas de la Ira, Daniel Landi, 2017, Castill-La Mancha

60-year-old vines planted in sandy granite. Rose-scented, red-fruited, lifted Grenache.

Bundle #3

Some Burgundy to Cheer You Up (3 packs for sale) $995. These wines don’t need a lot of introduction. They are some gems we thought we’d share, just a few bottles, as we need to keep the rest for when we reopen.

Chablis, 1er Cru Beauroy, Domaine Tribut, 2017

Meursault, Les Tessons, Domaine Pierre Morey, 2016

Gevrey Chambertin, 1er Cru Les Corbeaux, Domaine Bachelet, 2014

Charmes-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Domaine Arlaud, 2015

Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg, 2017

Volnay, 1er Cru Caillerets, Domaine Marquis d’Angerville, 2016
