As the Willamette Valley grape harvest approaches and preparations for winemaking begin, Antica Terra has relocated their winery’s tasting room to the scenic Black Walnut Inn, with sweeping views of the valley and the vineyards of the Dundee Hills. Antica Terra will continue to offer their two tastings a day, Wednesday through Sunday, at 10am and 1pm, with an additional tasting at 3:00pm exclusive to guests of the inn, through November 15th, 2017. These tastings are the primary opportunity to taste and purchase Antica Terra’s highly regarded and allocated wines. The newly renovated Black Walnut Inn is just a seven minute drive from the Antica Terra winery in Dundee, Oregon. Guests of the tastings can enjoy breathtaking views from the tasting room, or from the outdoor terraces overlooking the vineyard.
The 10am “Erudio” tasting features a rotating selection of four Antica Terra and Lillian wines, made by winemaker Maggie Harrison, served with hand-sliced Jamón Ibérico de Bellota (1 hour; $20 per guest).
The 1pm “Alo” tasting features a flight of Antica Terra and Lillian wines, in addition to wines that sustain Harrison’s creative process. The tasting features nine wines: current releases and a rotating selection of inspirational bottlings from around the world. The tasting can cover a vast range, from grower Champagne and Grand Cru Burgundy, to esoteric bottlings made from rare, indigenous grapes and from winemakers who employ innovative techniques that advance the limit of flavor. Wines are served alongside hand-sliced Jamón Ibérico de Bellota, duck liver terrine, a selection of cheeses curated by Steve Jones of Portland’s Cheese Bar and Alma chocolates (90 minutes; $60 per guest).
Reservations are required for either tasting, and can be made online at anticaterra.com/visit, or by calling the winery at 503-244-1748.
About Antica Terra
Antica Terra is an 11-acre vineyard located on a rocky hillside in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Vines were first planted here in 1989 in a clearing within the oak savannah, a place carefully prepared amid the fractured mixture of sandstone and alluvium sown with fossilized oyster shells. Antica Terra’s more recent history started with the arrival of co-owner and winemaker Maggie Harrison, who moved to Oregon in 2005 from Ventura County where she had spent the previous eight years (1998 to 2005) making syrah at the iconic Sine Qua Non winery. The Antica Terra winery is located at 979 SW Alder Street in Dundee, offering tastings of Antica Terra and Lillian wines from Wednesday through Sunday, recently lauded by Food & Wine. www.anticaterra.com
