Over 40 Unique Hot Sauces from Around the Country Will Cover a Wall of Bowery Bagels’ Shop Starting Friday, June 5th, with More to Come
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Portland, OR): Bowery Bagels, Oregon’s favorite bagel, schmear, and sandwich shop, is cranking up the heat with The Hot Sauce Reserve, an entire wall of their Downtown Portland retail space dedicated to the very best hot sauces from Portland and across the country, launching Friday, June 5th, 2015. Vigilantly collected by Bowery Bagels owner Michael Madigan and award-winning local hot sauce maker Andrew Garrett of NW Elixirs, the soon-to-be hottest wall in Portland will have over 40 different hot sauces at the time of launch, with plans to have over 100 bottles available for purchase by the end of summer.
The duo will fire up The Hot Sauce Reserve with favorite local brands like NW Elixirs, Marshall’s Haute Sauce, and Hard Times Sauce Co., but will also feature regional small batch hot sauces that customers can’t get anywhere else in town, like Voodoo Chile (Virginia), Lucky Dog (California), Race City Sauces (North Carolina), Scary Cherries (Texas), Zane and Zack’s (Washington), Cajohn’s Sauces (Ohio), PuckerButt Pepper Co. (South Carolina), High Ricer Sauces (New York), Jo Jo’s Siracha (Colorado), Heart Breaking Dawns (New Jersey), Defcon Sauces (New Jersey) and Tahiti Joe’s (Hawaii).
Brooklyn, N.Y. native Michael Madigan is owner of Bowery Bagels and heads a bourgeoning culinary collection in Portland, Oregon. An entrepreneur with a passion for small batch products and artisan producers, Madigan is the founder of culinary incubator space KitchenCru, a shared-use community kitchen which supports culinary based entrepreneurs in developing, operating, and growing a successful business. Surrounded and inspired by the creativity of KitchenCru talent, Madigan opened Bowery Bagels and CruMarket shop in 2012, which serves a variety of classic and innovative flavors of bagels and schmears, many of the artisan goods made in KitchenCru, and now Portland’s greatest retail compendium of hot sauces.
Andrew Garrett is chef owner of NW Elixirs, an award-winning hot sauce brand based in Portland, Oregon boasting four Screaming Mimi Awards, three World Hot Sauce Awards and was named among the top 23 hot sauces in the country as well as one of the next 14 sauces to replace Sriracha by Thrillist.com. His “take the time to do it right” attitude, especially when it comes to cooking, manifests in his wonderfully crafted hot sauces. His family’s fruit farm and garden where his father grew many different varieties of hot peppers sparked his love of spicy food that would eventually inspire the flavors at NW Elixirs. During his travels and while participating in the country’s top hot sauce competitions, Garrett sought out his talented, small batch hot sauce making counterparts from every region of the United States in order to showcase their delicious artisan products in The Hot Sauce Reserve.
Dedicated to every customer loving their purchase, heat-fanatics are welcome to taste-test any of the hot sauces at the shop, available to sample with Bowery Bagels’ fresh baked, all natural, Kosher Bagel Chips. For those who just can’t get enough spice in their life, The Hot Sauce Reserve’s passbook program packs a wallop as well, rewarding every purchase of 10 different hot sauces with a free bagel and schmear.
