Alp Blossom/Oregon Wine Month – Apolloni Vineyards/Chizu Closing/Portland Beer & Cheese Fest Tickets

May 28, 2019

 Alp Blossom Cheese

This stunning cheese is called Alp Blossom. It is an alpine cheese from from Sennerei Huban, a creamery and cheese school that was established in 1901 in Doren, Austria. Alp Blossom is made from the rich milk of Swiss Brown cows and aged for six months. At four months the rind is coated with a blend of herbs and flowers that grow in Austria’s alpine region. The blend includes celery, chervil, chives, cornflower, lavender, lavage, marigold, marjoram, onion, oregano, parsley, rose petals, and savory. Because the cheese has already matured when the the blend of blossoms is added it only subtly changes the flavor of the cheese. The paste of this alpine cheese is extremely creamy and mouth coating. Flavors of fresh cream, toasted nuts, and a touch of dried herbs are present in each delicious bite.

Oregon Wine Month – Apolloni Vineyards

Hosted by Laura Gordon
Thursday, May 30, 2019
May is Oregon Wine Month! Throughout the state restaurants and vineyards are offering ways to taste and learn about Oregon wines. You can find events that are taking place throughout the state on oregonwine.org. At Cheese Bar, we are celebrating Oregon Wine by featuring a different local winemaker at our Thursday tastings throughout the month of May.

This Thursday marks our final featured producer for Oregon Wine Month with Laura Gordon of Apolloni Vineyards.  Located in the Northern Willamette Valley, just 25 miles west in Forest Grove, Apolloni focuses on sustainably produced, estate grown Pinot Noir and traditional, Italian-style wines.  Owner/Winemaker Alfredo Apolloni and his family live on the vineyard and Alfredo hails from an Italian winemaking family, with vineyards in Northern Italy for over 150 years.  Join us for a great line up of wines to welcome summer!

  • 2017 Apolloni Estate Pinot Grigio
  • 2018 Apolloni Rosée of Pinot Noir
  • 2016 Apolloni L Pinot Noir Cuvée
  • Apolloni Fiasco Rosso NV

As usual, the tasting is complimentary. We hope you can join us in celebrating Oregon Wine Month!

Big news! Chizu will be morphing away from a brick and mortar into a pop up concept soon. We have had 4 great years serving cheese in our sushi bar style format. The time has come to tweak the concept and explore new options. Sunday June 2nd will be our last service at our current location. Please come in and enjoy the space before we head onward!

Cheese Bar will continue unchanged so come get your cheese fix with us at the mothership! All Chizu gift certificates that are not used at Chizu will be honored at Cheese Bar or future Chizu pop ups.

We are excited to be passing the Chizu space on to 1927 Smore’s. They are super nice folks who have a crazy fun and delicious concept! We can’t wait to see them in action.
