Wine Focus! We brought in two fun wines last week!
2020 Limited Addition Cabernet Franc Pet Nat Rose, OR $28
Pet Nat, short for pétillant naturel (meaning naturally sparkling) has been called Champagne’s quirky cool younger sibling. It is bottled while still fermenting, and allowed to complete fermentation in the bottle. Once opened it is lively and fresh and unpredictable and delicious. These Cabernet Franc grapes come from Eola Springs Vineyard and get a lot of sunlight and warmth in the late afternoon, then cool nights from the wind of the Van Duzer Corridor.
Winemaker’s notes: “This lightly sparkling rose is exuberantly red fruited with an exotic herbal forest incense.”
2019 Ercole Barbera del Monferrato, IT (1 Liter bottle) $15
Many folks know the Barbera grape for its bright acidity, and this wine is no exception to the rule. Far less known is the fact that Monferrato’s most prestigious zones are dedicated to Barbera plantings. Typically planted to southern exposure, these vineyards yield wines of great depth and balance. One of our biggest selling wines since we opened our doors in 2015 has been a barbera. I guess they just go hand in hand with hot delicious pizza and sunshine. Who can deny a 1 liter screw top?
