To Dream . . .
It’s been a long Summer around the Viola camp. I’ve been out swinging a hammer (not to mention pouring concrete, pulling electrical and roughing in the plumbing) in Mosier trying to make our dream a reality – having a little vineyard and winery in the midst of the Columbia Gorge growing zone. We’ve learned a lot about the challenges of developing bare land and working remotely in a rural zone. It’s been rewarding, challenging, exhausting and exhilarating – often all at the same time! We’ve been calling this property Sogno Ranch ever since purchasing it back in 2016. Sogno is the Italian word meaning ‘to dream’ and that just seems like what we are doing in our lives right now as we look to the future of Viola Wine Cellars!
After 4 months, we’ve got the first structure standing and the outside is complete and ready to withstand its first Winter. The area for the vineyard is cleared and we hope to get some plants in the ground in late Spring, but the process is a slow one and we don’t expect any grapes for winemaking until 2023 at the earliest! The site for a small home is prepped and I’ll start the construction on that in the Spring when the weather starts to be more amenable to outdoor work again.
TASTING ROOM OPEN TODAY
In the meantime – we’ve got a whole lot of wine in bottle, a bunch of new releases on deck in the cellar, and a lot of fun variety of places you can find us pouring in the coming months as we head into the busy holiday season. Keep Viola wines in mind for your holiday entertaining – we offer case and multi-case discounts and are always happy to mix and match our creations to meet your culinary theme.
The tasting room continues to operate with Friday hours from 2pm to 7pm through the month of October. We’ll add additional tasting room hours in November and December, especially around Thanksgiving. Current hours can always be found on our website at www.violawines.com.
We’re also available for private events to come pour at your place or to work with one of our partners in the food world to put together a special evening for you. For special event inquiries, reach out to me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
TASTING ROOM POP-UP in HOOD RIVER
This month, we’re excited to do our first pop-up in Hood River! Our friend Benjamin at Mylan Wines has generously offered us his tasting room for a ‘bottle take-over’ (yeah, no taps here!) on Saturday, October 13thfrom 12pm to 7pm. Sarah and I will be there hanging out and meeting new locals from the Gorge. We hope you will consider making a day of it and putting Viola Wine Cellars in Hood River on your Gorge wine tour that weekend.
SEATTLE SIPPING with VIOLA
For Seattle friends, come say hello to me at two fine establishments the following week:
Wednesday, October 16th I’ll be at Left Bank Seattle from 6pm on pouring current releases.
Thursday, October 17th Come find me at Vif Wine/Coffee from 5pm to 6:30pm with a lineup that will include the world premiere of the 2017 Primitivo ‘The Immigrant’!
NOVEMBER will bring NEW WINE CLUB RELEASES and MORE
More fun in Portland and the Gorge to come in November. Keep your eyes on your emails for updates. And thanks for your patience as we’ve been a bit quiet on the email and social media front through all of this construction.
We’ll be more in touch in the coming weeks.
