Here we are in the heart of the Summer and it’s time to remind you about the two big events that Viola Wine Cellars has going on this month.
This Saturday is the Alberta Street Fair featuring the PDX Urban Wineries Pavilion from 12-6pm, when 10 of us urban winemakers will gather around and pour you 20 different wines.
Advance tickets are still available – but you better get yours NOW.
On Saturday, August 22nd, you’re invited to join me at the lovely Allegre Vineyard in Hood River for Viola’s inaugural Dinner in the Vineyard event! Come take a vineyard walk with me and enjoy a light supper as the stars start to come out over the Gorge. I’ll pour examples of all the wines made from this site, including the Moscato Giallo, Ramato of Pinot Grigio, Bianco d’Allegre and Dolcetto. You’ll get to enjoy all of that along with a remarkable view of both Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood from your dinner table! Plus, with how advanced the grapes are this year, there’s a really good chance our first grapes will be getting picked within a week or so of this event, so it will be a wonderful chance to learn what growers and winemakers look for in the vineyard before making their harvest decisions. Oh – that and we’re gonna cook some deliciousness for you. My buddy Levi, a multi-talented guy with mad butchery skills, will be wearing the Sous Chef hat and I”ll be whipping up some pasta and antipasti for you all to enjoy. This event is just $35/person but limited to 36 people and seats are filling up. If you want to join, please send an email with your request to me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’ll send out a confirmation email and update you with directions. (The vineyard is just 1 hour East of Portland and easily reached off of I-84. The event starts at 3pm for a leisurely walk through the vineyards with a plan to sit down for dinner around 5pm so those driving back to Portland can make it before it gets too dark out.)
Last but not least – cork is open on Friday and I’ve got a few fun new finds on the shelf – including another Portland winemaker’s take on some Italian grapes, with quite a different spin on things. Check out the descriptions below and email if you want to secure some to pickup between 12-7pm during shop hours this week.
