Dear Food,

Did you wake up feeling a little agitated knowing today is Valentine’s Day? Or does your heart burn infinitely with love as you look forward to this evening with your soul mate?
Either way – we’ve got a Special Valentine’s Tasting for you tonight at the shop that you won’t want to miss. Complete with a very unique skin-contact white appropriately named Un Poco Agitato (a little agitated), an elegant red blend named Ellipse (the flavors go on and on and on) and a gorgeous dark red Syrah named Velvet (perhaps a companion to some Red Velvet cake you’ll enjoy later). Are you feeling the love yet?
I also thought this would be a good time to remind everyone about the Friday lineup as well, as we’re pouring wines from Rioja, which is always a popular tasting. All the details follow.
And yes, we still have plenty of chocolate on the ChocolateShop shelves should you need to run in for some last minute shopping on your way home from work tonight.

Happy Valentine’s Day to all,

Darryl and the cork crew

SPECIAL VALENTINE’S TASTING
Thurs, Feb 14
The Wines of Zelige-Caravent
4pm – 7pm . Free to Taste

Zelige Label
We’ve fallen head over heels for the wines from this small, organic producer that Louis/Dressner imports from the village of Pic Saint Loup in SW France.
Zelige-Caravent produces intensely flavored reds (and a really unique skin-contact fermented white) that are sure to get your love flowing. We’ll pour all 4 of their current releases at this special Thursday tasting.
Join us for a special sip before you head off to that special Valentine’s Dinner. Bonnie from PDX Wine will be here pouring the wines and telling you the tales about how they are produced. From 4pm – 7pm with special Valentine’s day prices on the wines poured. *Tasting is FREE as we express our love for our customers today!

RIOJA

Friday, Feb 15th
4pm – 7pm * Tasting fee

rioja map

Rioja is the most storied appellation in Spain. But this dominant region lost much of its luster following the Franco years as it pursued modernism and commerce at the expense of its identity.  Today, Rioja is back with new-found focus and the historic families of the region, led by a young generation, are taking advantage of some amazing vineyards to produce better and better wines each vintage. The quality has never been better.

With new arrivals from some of our favorite producers, like Sierra Cantabria, Mencos and Ostatu, we wanted to share them with you this week. Our Main Flight features 4 young examples of Rioja, while our Bonus Flight showcases a rare treat from Remelluri along with a 2005 Reserva from an estate stated in 1890 that will wow your palate without emptying your wallet. The Main Flight is $10 to taste and the Premium Pours are an additional $6. The fun starts at 4pm and goes until the bottles are empty – or 7pm, whichever comes first.  *Main Flight complimentary for cork club members in attendance (2 per account)
