Fall is here!

You might be in denial about that, but the colors are going to start changing any day now and while we have another heat wave predicted this week, we’ve all felt the chilly morning air and know it’s time to shift wine gears and try something new on for the Fall season.

So with that in mind, we are embracing our inner Wine Geek and offering you tastings this month that are sure to tickle your palate with a wide range of flavors from places around the globe that don’t always get the credit they deserve.  All the details of our Friday Night tastings follow, so put them on your calendar and we’ll see you soon!

SEPTEMBER TASTINGS

NEW VALUES FOR EVERYDAY ENJOYMENT
Friday, Sept. 7 . 4pm – 7pm . $10 main flight*
Grab Bag Mixed Case We start our Friday tastings this month with a grab bag of new arrivals in our under $15 section at the shop. Having spent most of the week ordering new wines to fill all the holes created by our sale, the hard part is going to be deciding which ones to open. So come in for a surprise tasting and then check out all the other new selections we’ve found for you to try. Tasting starts at 4pm and if it really is 90 degrees, we’ll have something cold in the lineup to help you adjust to the shop’s air conditioning.  And even if you can’t make it to the tasting, feel free to call us and ask us to put a Grab Bag Mixed Case together for you of new wines to try – we are always happy to provide some surprise and mystery to your wine drinking pleasure!

IT’S ALL GREEK TO ME

Friday, Sept. 14 . 4pm – 7pm . $12 main flight*
Ia Santorini Santorini Grape Vine
What else would we pick that rhymes perfectly with geek – Greek wines! We haven’t explored the many growing regions of Greece in some time, but lately I’ve been hearing more and more about the improved quality from small family estates. Having tasted a handful last week, we decided to invite Patricia from Gravel Road to come and show off 5 of her favorite new arrivals. We’ll have selections from the Greek islands, Northern Macedonia and the Peloponese. Come learn about the eno-happenings in one of the world’s oldest winemaking countries. You’ll discover why vines have adapted to the unique conditions of hot, island climates like the nest-shaped vine growing on the flat sands of Santorini. It will be an interesting tasting that will have you saying words like Asyrtiko and Xinomavro like a pro. Tasting starts at 4pm and goes until the bottles are empty, so come early to taste the full selection.

WINES FROM THE SAVOIE

Friday, Sept. 21 . 4pm – 7pm . $12 main flight* + bonus pours
Savoie Large
One of the more remote regions in France is the Savoie, which sits on the steep rocky slopes at the edge of the Alps where Italy, Switzerland and France all come together. Here, the native varietals of Jacquere, Altesse,  Mondeuse and the locally known Bergeron (a clone of Roussanne from the Rhone) all do well in the crisp andSavoie Steep clean mountain air.

Join us as we explore some of the best Savoie wines covering these interesting grapes. You’ll find something to go with Alpine fair which is based on whole grains, potatotes, onions, cheese and pork products. Surely there is something here for everyone to enjoy!  Tasting starts at 4pm and goes until the bottles are empty. We’ll have a bonus pour or two available this evening as well.

SICILIAN REDS

Friday, Sept. 28 . 4pm – 7pm . $12 main flight* + bonus pours

Sicily Provinces From Messina to Ragusa to the ruins around Agrigento then all the way over to Trapani, the enchanting sub-regions of Italy’s famed island of Sicily have no shortage of quality wines now being produced.  We will dive into a selection of new arrivals from Sicily, focusing on the red wines made using Nero d’Avola, Frappato and Nerello Mascalese.
