Oregon Chefs and Markets Offer ‘Aqua Plate Special’ Winter Seafood Menu Items Benefit The Wetlands Conservancy

Portland, Ore. (November 13, 2012)— Oregon is teeming with nutrient-rich estuaries that serve as vital breeding and feeding grounds for crab, salmon and other marine life. Healthy estuaries are essential to the fresh seafood that is iconic of our state. That’s the message that Oregon restaurants and New Seasons Markets are sharing with diners this winter by offering the Aqua Plate Special – a delicious campaign that supports Oregon’s estuaries.
Estuaries are the rich mixing zones where freshwater from the land meets salt water from the sea, and in partnership with The Wetlands Conservancy (TWC), select Oregon restaurants and New Seasons markets are showing their support of TWC’s efforts to conserve them by participating in the annual “Aqua Plate Special” campaign. From now until the end of December, help support wetland conservation and Oregon fishing communities by selecting an Aqua Plate Special menu or market item. Look for the Aqua Plate decal in the windows of participating restaurants and New Seasons Markets for seasonal seafood options.
“Oregon restaurants play a critical role in building consumer awareness around local and sustainable food systems,” explains TWC Executive Director Esther Lev of the third annual campaign. “We are excited to welcome both past participating restaurants and new partners as Aqua Plate Special gains momentum and awareness. People are beginning to trust the Aqua Plate logo as an icon of Oregon sustainable seafood.”
Choose an Aqua Plate Special item and support conservation of Oregon’s wetlands and coastal communities while savoring the taste of fresh local seafood. Aqua Plate Specials will feature Chinook Salmon, Dungeness Crab, and Oregon Oysters, the sales from which participants will donate money to TWC.
