Upcoming wine classes @ Pastaworks
Last fall we inaugurated a new series of wine classes, including an introduction to sherry, a separate class on the wines of Spain and most recently an evening in Piedmont. The next two classes return us to some of our favorite places and wines.
The wines of the Rioja
Peter will return to the source of his first wine pilgrimage, the Rioja region of northern Spain. Long appreciated as the producer of Spain’s best wines, the Rioja has experienced its own ebbs and flows, from the heyday of its modern incarnation in the 1860′s to the low of the phylloxera decimation of its vineyards in the first part of the twentieth century to vinous and financial rebirth in the 1970′s to the current debates about vineyard and soil influences. We’ll focus on classic and modern, old and new, and have a snack or two as well.

The wines of Tuscany
Tuscany was our first (vinous) Italian love affair: a glass or two of Selvapiana Chianti Rufina Riserva (1977, to be exact) convinced us that Italian wines were greatly under appreciated. Other wines and regions have since garnered out attention, but Tuscany has always been in our hearts. This evening’s class will take you on a tour of representative wines from throughout the region. Yes, there will be a Selvapiana included, but which one?
