for Their Sunday Artisan Seminar Series

Immerse Yourself in an Exploration of Artisan Food and Drink

Newberg, Ore. (January 23, 2013) – On three Sundays in February, Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash invite you to explore artisan crafts that—like wine—depend on nuance, regional variety and an expertise in process. Learn about the subtleties and variations of coffee, salt, and tea from local artisan masters Paul Allen and Pete Miller of Caravan Coffee, Mark Bitterman of The Meadow, and Steve Smith of Steven Smith Teamaker. Then enjoy a tasting of Penner-Ash wines at the end of each seminar.

Sunday, February 10th, 2013 at 2pm: Coffee Tasting

In many ways, coffee is like wine in its variety, complexity, and flavors. Join master roasters Pete Miller and Paul Allen of Newberg’s Caravan Coffee, for an exceptional artisanal coffee experience. Learn about the history of the bean, participate in a unique coffee “cupping” tasting, and enjoy simple, yet surprising food pairings.

Sunday, February 17th, 2013 at 2pm: Salt Tasting

Salt is a ubiquitous ingredient in our lives, but is so much more than the product you buy at the grocery store. Salt can be a revelation! Explore an exciting array of artisanal salts by joining acclaimed selmelier Mark Bitterman of The Meadow, located in Portland, for a special salt tasting seminar. Experience the unique characteristics of site-specific salts from around the world with simple, yet exceptional, pairings. Nourish your inner salt enthusiast!

Sunday, February 24th, 2013 at 2pm: Smith Teas

Like wine, tea to many is a way of life. Although simply grown and harvested, tea is a drink full of flavor complexities and nuances. Join Penner-Ash as they welcome Steve Smith, master teamaker of Steven Smith Teamaker, and spend an afternoon exploring the world of tea. Discover tea’s unique attributes, character, and benefits in this fun and lively seminar hosted by Steve. A tasting of various teas and blends will be accompanied by simple, quality food pairings.
