Holidays with Lompoc

It’s December, which means the days are getting shorter, colder, and – here in Portland – wetter. This calls for a drink! Lucky for you, today, tomorrow and Friday at Sidebar, we’re pouring Monster Mash Imperial Porter, Bourbon Barrel Aged Wee Heavy, C-sons Greetings, Jolly Bock, Blitzen and Rosemary Stout. Come join us with a pint by the fire!

Please note, Sidebar will close at 7pm on Thursday and all day on Saturday for private parties.

Join us this Friday & Saturday at the Vancouver Winter Brewfest, taking place at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver. The festival will be offering at least 20 Northwest winter ales. Hours are 3 to 10pm Fri and Noon to 10pm Sat. Pre-sale purchase deals can be found on the website at www.vancouverwinterbrewfest.com.

The Lompoc Soccer Club is collecting clothing items for Transition Projects, Inc. TPI is a long-term shelter that helps adults who are working hard to transition off the streets and into jobs and a place of their own to live.  The biggest need is “adult clothing of all kinds, men’s in particular.”  There are no kids – so please don’t donate kid stuff. You can drop off donations between now and Monday at Noon at the 5th Quadrant at 3901 N Williams St.  Please put in a bag(s) and mark clearly as “Lompoc Soccer TPI Donations.”

Next Thursday, Dec. 13 is the 2nd annual “Chanukah vs. Christmas: The Battle Royale of Beers.” This event pits Shmaltz Brewing’s lineup of Chanukah-themed beers against our Christmas beers (with 8 Malty Nights thrown in to give us an edge!). The event beings at 5 pm at The Green Dragon, 928 SE 9th Ave. Enjoy Jewbelation 16, Barrel Aged Origin & more from Shmaltz, alongside our 8 Malty Nights, C-sons Greetings, Brewdolph, Jolly Bock & Bourbon Barrel Aged Wee Heavy. But no matter what you drink, you come out the winner of this battle!

Also on Thursday, Dec. 13, the Lompoc 5th Quadrant location is holding a fundraiser for the Ruelle Family, a local family of four who is undergoing a difficult time. Earlier this fall, mother Summar Ruelle was diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer that had metastasized to her lymph nodes and to various bones in her body. Less than two weeks later, the family received more devastating news: their three-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Both mother and daughter have begun their journey for treatment. We will be donating a percentage of Thursday’s sales to the Ruelle family; if you wish to learn more, visit www.theruellefamily.com.

On Thursday, Dec. 20th from 5 to 7pm, join us for Meet the Brewers Night at Oaks Bottom Public House (1621 SE Bybee). Join Bryan, Josh & Irena as they release Prime Directive IPA, the first in our Sci-Fi IPA series. Plus, Irena will be on the patio with vintage bottle tastings of Braggot, Bourbon BBL Aged C-sons Greetings & Bourbon BBL Aged Tavern Rat. We’ll also have bottles of vintage Braggot for sale.

8 Malty Nights, Portland’s first Chanukah beer, is being well-received. According to Willamette Week reviewers, “Lompoc Brewing makes a mealy chocolate rye” and “Xmas=dark!” This dark brown Chocolate Rye beer features a roasted chocolate flavor and a sweet finish. It’s lightly hopped with English style hops. Buy some now for Chanukah gifts or a special celebration. Bottle are just $5 each, with 10% off a case – L’chaim! Also now available in bottles, our C-sons Greetings and Lompoc Special Draft (LSD).

Have you tried our new winter menu at 5Q? Swing by and try items like Truffle Pub Fries, our amazing fries tossed in truffle oil, pecorino Romano & herbs. Also at the 5Q is Monday Night Football and Wings! Wings are just $.50 each from 5pm to close with three sauces to choose from: chipotle buffalo, ginger sesame & Caribbean jerk.

Lots of great stuff going on, and we hope you’ll take part. In the meantime, have a fantastic week, and remember: Drink Local. Drink Lompoc!
