Nostrana Announces the Debut of Spella Caffè Espresso and Coffee
Portland, Ore. (June 4, 2010) – What do Portlanders and Italians have in common? We buy local, and we’re obsessed with coffee.
Nostrana, known for its commitment to local purveyors, is excited to announce a new partnership with coffee roaster Andrea Spella of Portland’s renowned Spella Caffè, an Italian-style micro-roaster that has been called the best espresso in America by chef and author Faith Willinger.
Andrea Spella and Nostrana’s Executive Chef Cathy Whims selected an espresso blend that carries a classic Italian profile to complement Whims’ regional Italian cuisine. The restaurant will serve Spella’s Rossalina blend, named after Andrea’s red roaster. Andrea’s tasting notes: “The Rossalina has a base flavor of rich cocoa, caramel on the mid-palate, a lush mouth feel, and berry tones with spice on the lingering finish.”
Nostrana’s new Spella Caffè espresso menu includes hot espresso drinks and refreshing concoctions like espresso Affogatos: a shot of Spella espresso over a scoop of Nostrana’s gelato, and the Spella Shakerato: espresso, sugar and ice, shaken and served up in a rocks glass. “It’s the perfect cold beverage on a hot summer day,” says Chef Whims. Nostrana Chef de Cuisine Kelly Myers also developed a signature Spella Espresso Gelato recipe now being offered through the summer. House blend brewed coffee is also available.
