Feast Portland Teams with Widmer Brothers Brewing to Unveil Signature Beer for Inaugural Festival

One Of Portland’s Original Breweries, Widmer Brothers, Partners With USA Pears To Create Krystal Pear, A Wheat Ale With Pear, That Will Serve As The Signature Beer For Feast Portland

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bon Appétit Presents Feast Portland: A Celebration of Oregon Bounty and Widmer Brothers Brewing are proud to announce the inaugural, flagship culinary event’s signature beer: Krystal Pear.

Inspired by Feast Portland, Widmer Brothers Brewing partnered with USA Pears to create Krystal Pear, creating the signature beer for festival. Krystal Pear is a filtered American Style Wheat Ale fermented with Northwest Pears. The malt bill of this ale creates flavors of fresh cereal-like grains and malted wheat, and is balanced out by the use of a new hop called Mosaic. Mosaic contributes aromas of fresh peaches and stone fruit, making it the perfect complement to round out the refreshing ale.

Founded in 1984 by brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer, Widmer Brothers Brewing offers an array of delicious Northwest beers – including Hefeweizen, brewed in 1986 as the first American style Hefeweizen, the Rotator IPA Series including a rotating selection of uncommon IPAs, and Brrrbon, an annual release of a NW Red ale aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels.

Throughout the week, Krystal Pear will be on draft at all Feast events where Widmer Brothers beer is poured, as well as the Gasthaus Pub located at the Widmer Brothers brewery. The beer will be the perfect compliment to the many star-studded events throughout the weekend and will be part of the Strange Brew demo in Director Park on Friday, September 21, from 3-4pm where Widmer Brothers’ Ben Dobler, along with Bon Appétit’s Andrew Knowlton, Christian DeBenedetti and Breakside Brewery’s Ben Edmunds, will talk about creating Feast’s special brew and other unique beers.
