Dear readers,

Here at the website we occasionally receive advance copies of about-to-be-published books, and last week’s mail brought us a gem: Luisa Weiss’ My Berlin Kitchen: A Love Story With Recipes.

Many of you will recognize Luisa as the formerly-New York-now-Berlin-based blogger behind “The Wednesday Chef,” a smart fusion of recipes and life that is one of the world’s more popular food blogs. In New York years ago, I crossed paths with Luisa and got to spend an hour in her warm company. But in recent years I had lost track of her and her blog, and thus, the chronicle of her life. (In fact, I didn’t even realize she had relocated to Berlin.)

Almost immediately, I dipped into the new book and found it hard to put down. The writing is lyric, the trans-Atlantic story engrossing, and the recipes mouthwatering. As the story moves from Europe to the United States and back, it verges on being a travel tale — but there’s plenty of love (as the title promises) and food, of course, too.

If you’re a fan of memoir, especially memoir with a dash of food writing, I suggest you make haste and preorder your copy of My Berlin Kitchen now, either at your favorite locally owned bookstore, at Powell’s, or at Amazon. The book will be released September 13.
